Smite Turner is renowned for his single-minded devotion to his duty as a magistrate. But behind his relentless focus lies not only a determination to do what is right, but the haunting secrets of his past - secrets that he is determined to hide, even if it means keeping everyone else at arm's length. Until the day an irresistible woman shows up as a witness in his courtroom.

Miranda Darling isn't in trouble - yet. But she's close enough that when Turner threatens her with imprisonment if she puts one foot wrong, she knows she should run in the other direction. And yet no matter how forbidding the man seems on the outside, she can't bring herself to leave. Instead, when he tries to push her away, she pushes right back - straight through his famous self-control, and into the heart of the passion that he has long hidden away.

Less than 10 minutes in abd couldn't listen anymore. I love this series and yet can't even because of the horrible narrator.

nope nope nope

The narrator for this book is terrible. She sounds like a computer and the voices are all very similar. I like this book and the whole series is great and very amusing but don't spend the credit on this one. Buy the Kindle version instead!

Terrible narrator

The narrator is terrible and so is the production quality.

The sound levels change from high pitched to very low at almost radom intervals so you cannot even keep a consistent volume.

The narrator's character voices are cringeworthy and irritating, and as narrator she sounds quite old (which is an odd choice for the relatively young characters of a romance). In short, the narration is VERY BAD.

I love Courtney Milan novels and really wanted the last of the Turner Brother Trilogy. The trilogy has been wonderful. The narrator of this one, however, is terrible.

Read the book instead.

i do wish the readings were edited. The word 'gaol' is pronounced like 'jail' and means the same. the word appears many times in the text. Each time the narrator said 'gowl' or 'gowler' I wanted to howl.

mispronunciations ruined story

Found it hard to listen to because the reader sounded as if she had been smoking 10 packs of cigarettes.
Other than that the story was lovely.

Lovely little story,

The narration was a challenge for several of the voices. it was a combo of grating and like Marge's sisters on the Simpsons. But... I kept plowing thru because I love a strong heroine and the hero tugged at my heart. There is a lot going on in this one. Worth a listen....

Another great Courtney Milan HR but...

Yes the narrator sounded like she should've been Gollum from The Lord of the Rings but the story itself was so engrossing that the poor narration can be overcome. At least she read the main characters with feeling. This story was by far my favorite in the series. Smite is so damaged that you can hardly fathom how Miranda will get through to him. Watching their story unfold was very emotional. If you like damaged and tortured heroes then this one's for you.

Best Story in Series

This is a title I have listened to several times. It is excellent. The narrator has an unusual voice, and I find I get accustomed to it rather quickly. The heroine and hero are nuanced and fine, I would describe other voices as Dickensian. The authors story line includes difficult, poignant situations with complex and strong characters. This is a book/audio I treasure.

Best of a stellar series

I am so disappointed in this audio version of Unraveled. I liked reading the book a lot, but this narrator was simply unlistenable (is that a word?) to me. I don't know how to describe her voice -- British Munchkin with a bit of Yoda thrown in??

Everyone's tastes vary, so I'm sure that others will enjoy her narration.

If you haven't read the Turner trilogy, I recommend it. All three novels are excellent!

Where does Unraveled rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very highly indeed. However, one should not drive while listening to that little scene right at the end of the opera (fans self vigorously).

What other book might you compare Unraveled to and why?

Any Courtney Milan book, I expect--I have come to look forward to her intensity and excellent writing, and occasional thunderbolts of humor. I also compare her work to that of Lois McMaster Bujold, who can make you laugh and break your heart in the same chapter.

What about Nicole Quinn’s performance did you like?

The different voices were especially good, though Ash's (the Duke's) voice and Dalrymple's voice were fairly close if they were in the same conversation.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Too intense for that, and also, I have this horrible thing called a day job that would keep me from doing it, alas.

Any additional comments?

Now I will have to spend money on all the other books in the series. My poor Visa!

Am I insane? I loved this narrator...
