He needed a place to hide. She needed a friend. They never expected to fall in love. After a car accident - an event he considers a prank gone bad - jaded pop star Hunter Kennedy is forced to hide out with his aunt in small-town Colorado. He's supposed to rest, heal his scars, and attend high school in disguise until the press dies down. But he only wants to get back to work.

Worse, the girl who's been assigned to make him over into a geek is a major geek herself. Vere Roth is a chattering pixie - a blushing tornado and a complete social disaster. He's never met a girl who's never been kissed, believes in romance, and thinks Hunter's a "nice" guy.

Funny thing is...Hunter is nice around Vere because she's his first real friend. He also can't seem to stop sharing his secrets or keep her out of his heart. Knowing he'd never deserve a girl as sweet as Vere, he resigns himself to the friend zone and helps his new bestie with her own makeover.

She tortures him daily for guy advice on how to snag her lifelong crush: a guy Hunter thinks is totally wrong for Vere. And sadly he's taken note of Vere's stunning transformation.

When Vere asks her best friend for some kissing advice, Hunter can't resist.

And that's when things get out of control.

I bought this on a spur liking the rating and the story line and let me tell you it didn't disappoint! the author is very detailed and I loved that it felt like I was walking around living as the characters. the 2 that did the voices were AMAZING! they brought it fully to life for me! if you're debating on getting this just stop the inner conflict and get out ASAP! you won't be disappointed!

Love this book!

Female reader is incredibly annoying, making it hard to listen to the whole story. Considering this audio book cost twice as much as most, I'm more than disappointed in the purchase. Storyline was ok but I probably wouldn't seek out this author again.

Meh.

The book started off amazing! For the most part I was very excited to get to the end. But the ending was very dull and unexpected they could've continued the story and told us what happen to the band or his career and how he finishes school. Very horrible ending

Shocking

I really enjoyed this storyline and plot, but I was thoroughly aggravated by one the narrators. The male narrator for Hunter was good enough, but the female narrator for Vere drove me crazy, because she constantly made Vere sound ditzy and idiotic, which I do not think was part of her “shy around boys” character.

Mixed thoughts

The Unmaking of Hunter Kennedy is a fun, sweet summer listen. The narrators did a beautiful job of conveying some tricky internal and external dialog. The premise of the rock star hiding in normal city USA, is a well-loved romantic trope, too.

However, as much as I loved some of the witty, hilarious exchanges, the beats from romantic event to romantic event along with criss-crossing with the mystery of how his mother sent him to Colorado was loose and at times confusing. And there is enough content to make a series. The middle to the end seemed scattered. The characters constantly change their minds to the point of inconsistency.

Again, really funny, clever dialog, and this would be great as a young teen sitcom - solid PG!

Sweet, yet could be two books

I absolutely fell in love with both Hunter and Vere! It take me back to that first true love and makes you feel young again. The store in great the more you listen the more you love the characters.

what really made this book for me all the better was the narrator's. they were great. I really liked Vear I felt like she was very relatable. what really made this book for me all the better was the narrators. They were great. I really liked Vear I felt like she was very relatable. I loved how we were in both of their heads. This story has been done at time or two. But this was done so much better than all the others. I really liked how she wasn't just a snarky girl that wasn't into him at all that's been done over and over. I really really enjoyed this.

loved it!!!

I've read this book countless times and have yet to get my fill of it. I LOVE Hunter so much! Since my niece is staying with me this week, I decided to buy the audiobook for us to listen to together. The narrators did a great job. It took a bit to get accustomed to listening to adults talk instead of the teens they were supposed to be, but after that, it was very enjoyable, making us laugh at Vere's antics. The female narrator did a spectacular job at capturing Vere's rants and freakouts. It was so fun experiencing the story through another avenue, and my niece loved the story as much as I did. Highly recommended!!!

One of my favorite YA books ever!

Good, cute story. Wish there had been a little more romance and an epilogue. I liked Wen Ross's voice, but Kai Kennicott's "older lady" "mom" voice really bothered me. Warning: anxiety and depression triggers

Not a big fan of female voice and why no epilogue?
