Bring back bray.

Bray brought life to this series and I feel baited and switched that he didn’t read this one.

Good and Dark with a Sprinkle of humor

I'm gonna miss this. Kramer's narration fit perfectly with this book. Gayou's style could be heard throughout. I'm loving the direction that this journey is taking. Since Joshua Gayou said he's already completed the third book, I'm patiently waiting for more. This universe and character just keep expanding. Gotta say it put the wheels spinning in my head about our rulers and why certain things happen.

Joshua Gayou Continues to Evolve: Very Well Written!

This a a great book, and I love seeing how Joshua Gayou continues to hone his craft. The book itself is dark, and I am a sucker for the interplay between science fiction and mythology.

The characters are amazingly written and believable.

It was a bit jarring that the narrators changed. If I had to choose, I would say that I felt that RC Bray's Udo was truer to the character, but Kramer eventually found a voice for Udo that was just as good--give it a chance, it just takes awhile to really hear Kramer's Udo.

That said, my advice would always be for publishers to stick with the original narrator for audiobooks, especially if you manage to get RC Bray to narrate the first book in a series.

The best you will ever do is get someone as good as Bray, and the most likely outcome is going to be the opposite. So while Kramer worked out--for me--you can very easily lose your audience by not using RC Bray for further books in a series he started.

Be patient, my son

I ended up enjoying the change in narrator. It's hard to follow Bob, but I kinda feel like the way the story is evolving, it suited. Maybe following the second merge, there should be a third narrator?

Needless to say, enjoyed Josh's approach to story telling, I think this would be a very flat book on its own, but as the middle act, it does a great job of conveying the meat of the story, lots of reflecting on beginnings, glimpsing the future.

The story is good but the narrator does not fit. I’m sure he is good in other stories but not this one. Unlistenable. Loved the first book.

Scattered, predictable, and boring

I was disappointed just seeing Bray was reading this one, nor was any of the others on my A-list. Within the first few sentences I knew this was a narrator that had to be endured and no so much enjoyed. Not a deal breaker for an awesome story, but….. well it wasn’t garbage, but it was slow, and scattered on revealing and storyline. By the time a big reveal comes it’s seeable from a waayyss back. Plus I had lost much interest by the time they happened. I don’t really understand what happened cause book 1 and the entire commune series were awesome. Narration was a massive part of it, but the storyline itself lost steam. By the end I didn’t even know what the point was and I’m guessing it might have something to do with bray not reading.

o.k so no Bray really threw me off at first but Kramer did a wonderful job. It didn't take long to expect and the enjoy Kramer's performance. the story was amazing as you would expect from Gayou! i hope he continues the series for a long time!

Great book and performance, but prolonged

The story development is very good. However I think it can significantly improve if author put more events. The number of events is generally small, so you will mostly get descriptions and experiences, but not much of suspense or unexpected events. With just a bit touch Joshua Gayou can make this series just as good as Lord of the rings.

As for performance - I do like RC Bray as well, however Michael Kramer did a wonderful job! Congrats on that. I was very sceptical when I saw Bray was not narrating this book, but in just 30 mins I really loved the performance of Kramer. Do you remember "Agent Smith" from The Matrix ? The same voice has Michael Kramer default voice and he has a bunch of different voices, all good.

The book is great, highly recommended... still it can be better! The best part is the style of Joshua Gayou. It is a book that makes me laugh at unexpected places. Keep up the good work and hopefully make it better! It is so much better than "All Gifts, Bestowed".

New Narrator for a Reason?

At first reading other reviews I was a bit put off hearing of the switch to a different narrator. I decided to give it a chance and it honestly was a struggle with the new voice for the first few chapters. He sounded as if I was listing to Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) of the Matrix tell a story. After a while I tended not to notice as much and enjoyed the story a great deal. I think at the end of the book during Udo's last few minutes of thoughts he gives a reason for the change in Narrator, at least one that makes sense to me, I will not spoil it for those that have not listened yet but it could be the whole reason for the change. However, it could just be that I am wrong and Mr. Bray was either not available or just not chosen for this book. Either way I look forward to the next installment.
