The audiobook is in the voice of an 11-year-old girl (referencing ages 10 to 12) living in 1963 Brooklyn. She details her Italian/Sicilian family, their language customs, as well as the crazy cast of characters on her beloved block and in her school. It references the events and music of the day and focuses on her vivid imagination, dreaming that a brand-new pair of red PF Flyers sneakers will give her the superpower of flying.

A slice of Brooklyn

For all who grew up on a Brooklyn street in the sixties, you will find this book entertaining. As a child who grew up on the street mentioned in this book, I found myself smiling & remembering my childhood fondly.

Nostalgic and Entertaining

Wonderful story, enjoyable and for me, nostalgic to think about my own experiences as a kid in New York City. It provides good laughs and easy to follow along. I also read the book. The audible is much better because the author is who does the reading. Her accent and personality come through. She sings at some parts, I actually think she should have sang more of the book or could have jazzed it up a bit more with her vocal ability. I hope if she writes again and reads that she puts a little more of her vocal talent and fun behind the reading. It changes it up from a third party reading the book in the same tone throughout.

Overall a fun book. Especially if you are. Bit older (pre cell phones) with east coast roots. You’ll relate one way or another.

Remind me of my childhood.

This audible project was done by a woman in her natural dialect and with great humor and respect for her childhood. If you grew up in Brooklyn in the sixties or seventies you will enjoy it, it will feel like home.

Not a good read

It is Badly written and boring the story. Is not at all interesting. A monotonous read.
