Just gets better and better

Well, the twists and turns are truly keeping me on edge. I love this series! I haven’t been so engrossed in a series that covers one couple in a very long time. I highly recommend these books. Narration is spot on as well.

Good story. Great narration.

The unrelenting hatred for latents continues, and of course, Alex and Dom are in even more trouble than they were in the last book. I enjoyed the twists and turns in the story. The big reveals were equally engaging. The 'latents suck' propaganda is getting a bit tedious. Bigotry exists, but so do rule-breakers. I wanted to see more rule-breakers in this story.

The best part of this book is the developments in the relationship between Alex and Dom. That relationship is tested with interesting results.

As always Cornell Collins performance was excellent, and I have already started on the next audio book.

Team Alex…

DOM and ALEX even with their fear of confessing their love for each other, they full accept the insane and scary things about each other. Alone, they are walking red flags buh together they are one big Green & often multi colored flag. They are each other’s anchor.

Too little too late

On the plus side, the magical espionage story that began with book 1 finally sees more payoffs: reveals and double crosses stir things up, even if the results are still predictable.

On the downside, there are several series flaws that get particularly bad here, making this a book to both love and hate.

First, Mr. Collins’ voicing for Dom and Alex was too similar. Add in the references to the three MMCs by first, last and nicknames (like John being called Dom or Dominici- or Alex also being called Kemp or Kempthorn), and the one syllable names (especially Kemp and Kage), and it was work to figure out who was speaking and whose POV was on.

Second, four books in and still the former soldier/enforcer and millionaire agent were perpetually behind the ball, falling for obvious traps, failing to uncover anything except by luck, and mostly losing.

Third, while I finally started warming up to the chemistry, I was exasperated by Alex and Dom being complete idiots and fooling around n the midst of danger (with obvious bad results).

Fourth, the Latent-hate was oppressive, which would have been easier to take if there were more than the mere handful of Team Kempthorn characters to counter all the venom. This desperately needed more good humans and other kickbutt Latents.

With all that said, I enjoyed book 4 well enough to move onto book 5 and complete the series. Turns out book 5 was the best of the bunch.
