A handsome young man comes to Napa from France with a mystery. The recent death of his father left him with a fortune and a key to a safety deposit box in faraway California. Bundled in the safety deposit box is only a packet of old photos tied up with a lacy red ribbon. The photos are of a beautiful young woman, and the packet contains the business card of a Napa Valley winery. His visit to the winery starts him on an adventure tied to a history that many are reluctant to recall.

Although the lady in the old photos is long dead, he discovers living links that bring him face to face with a young lady whose resemblance is shocking. This discovery will shake his world and uncover evolving dangers to them both. The story introduces a dynamic young professor of forensic psychology who helps to unwind the complex story of a threat haunting the Reznikova family for generations.
