Another Great Adventure

Another book I had read before but skillfully done in the audiobook. McKiernan does a great job letting us know how the characters are feeling throughout the story so we can rejoice or commiserate along with them.

Poor narration

I love Dennis McKiernan, and it was a relief to be able to play this book at 1x speed, as for the Iron Tower trilogy I had to play it at 1.2x….due to….all…..the dramatic….pauses. So irritating. But then it quickly became apparent that this narrator never bothered to figure out who the characters are or how to pronounce their names. “Tuckerby” is not difficult, but he says Tuckbury. Seriously? Half the time he says Kian and the other half he says Kinan. The Bosky has an “o” in it - not a “u” - but he says Busky. How can someone with obvious voice training not be able to read the words as written? It’s like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I love Dennis Mckiernan but not the Silver Call

I have to say I have read several books by Dennis Mckiernan but "Trek to Kraggen Cor" and "The Brega Path are two poorly written books. I have read somewhere that these two books were written before the Iron Tower Trilogy which I could believe. The Iron Tower Trilogy is far superior and the characters and story are much more developed and interesting.
Unfortunately Trek and Brega's Path are horribly boring and the characters are far less engaging. While the Warrows in the Iron Tower were smart, brave and interesting, the Warrows in the Silver Call are whiny and annoying. It was hard for me to like the characters in this book. I always felt like they were preaching or speaking as if they were talking to a 5 year old.
To be fair, it could have been the reader of these books that made the Silver Call so unbearable. After listening to the Iron Tower and Cameron Beierle's naration, Jerry Sciarrio sounds awful. He sounds like he is out of breath and has way too much saliva when he is reading. Plus he came across very rushed, choppy and forced. He does not have the ease in narration that Cameron had. Also, he could never seem to get the pronunciation of Tuck and/or Tuckerby correct. He would sometimes get it right but other times he would pronounce it in several different ways (Tuckburry, Took, etc....) It became really annoying.
Sadly, I would recommend buying these books and skimming them or just reading a synopsis of these books. They are not worth listening to. At least if you read the books you can skip past all the dribble and get to the meat of the story.
