Resumen del Editor

In this riveting, ultrarealistic novel from J. L. Bourne, a man struggles to survive after the US infrastructure collapses and martial law engulfs the streets of America.

In the not-too-distant future, during an unacknowledged mission inside the Syrian border, a government operative unwittingly triggers an incredible event that alters the course of society. A terrible weapon has been unleashed - a weapon that, left to run its course, will destroy the moral fabric of humanity.

In the midst of crisis, the population struggles to survive in a world short on vital resources. Inflation cripples the US economy, and post-war armored military vehicles patrol the streets.

One man stands up to push back the overwhelming wave of tyranny triggered by the onset of nationwide martial law. How can he possibly succeed against a high-tech and tyrannical enemy that is hell-bent on ripping liberty from the pages of future history?

From the author and military expert who brought listeners the riveting horror series Day by Day Armageddon, Tomorrow War is a compelling account of an alternate dystopian America located just down the tracks of oblivion.

Not what I was hoping for

Having just listened to William Forstchen’s excellent “One Second After”, a book with a nearly identical premise, Tomorrow War just seemed a little flat and shallow by comparison. The reading was somewhat stilted and robotic. The story was dispassionate, more like reading a news story rather than immersing yourself in an auditory experience and feeling as if you were part of the action. I wanted to feel shock and horror and disbelief as Max calmly slaughters both criminals and law enforcement officers in horrible ways, but it just fell flat for me. I found myself rolling my eyes and shaking my head more often than not as the story unfolded, and the ending left me similarly apathetic. The ending of this book reminded me of the one in “the handmaid’s tale“, where the characters all just disappear into history and you never find out what happened to anyone. Sorry, but I just did not enjoy this journey

A real page turner!

Great story, with fantastic technology, and a knowledgable author. If you enjoyed the Day By a Day Armageddon series you'll love this!

Not what I expected

What made the experience of listening to Tomorrow War the most enjoyable?

I liked Mr. Bourne's Day by Day Apocalypse, and I like this book for the same reason ... the level of detail is very good, and he writes in a manner that is engaging and authentic. For the most part the characters are consistent and the framework is logical.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Max, of course.

Which character – as performed by Kevin T. Collins and Jay Snyder – was your favorite?

Interesting ... I didn't know there were two narrators.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really an extreme reaction ...

Could it happen?

I've read a few books like this one, each with their own story but a common theme. It makes me wonder if it could ever happen but I see these things already happening in other parts of the world.

As far as "Fall of America" books go, this story is better than most. It had a satisfying ending. I would like more books but I didn't feel like I was left hanging if there aren't.

Wow this is a fantastic story!

J.L. Bourne knocked it out of the park with this book for sure. Jay Snyder and Kevin Collins do a great job narrating this book. Definitely will be listening again.

A Chilling and All-Too Possible Vision of the Future

Not knowing what to expect when I started this book as I know neither the author or the narrator, I was ready to be disappointed following my recent attempt to delve into near-future apocalypse books. To my great pleasure however, this is a really good book.

It starts badly, with a lot of details of training to resist torture and how to handle yourself in lethal situations. Don’t be put off though, once that is done, the book really picks up. I would suggest to the author that he should have cut that whole first section out as it doesn’t seem to add anything to the story and is irrelevant to anything else that happens in the book.

The end of modern civilization comes about pretty quickly and in a very believable way. In some ways it feels almost a little too close to home with the terrifying politics of the United States at the moment, and I hope doesn’t turn out to be prophetic. M. Bourne has a solid grip on the fragility of our current world and our vulnerability caused by our complete dependence on technology. He also makes it quite clear that being a Luddite who rejects technology isn’t the solution.

The timeline may be a little too compressed in places - for instance I find it difficult to believe that wolf packs would magically repopulate or move into the East in a matter of weeks, but other than that this should appeal to a wide audience.

I particularly like the fact that he is relatively apolitical in his evaluation of the potential causes for the collapse.

Good reader who is able to bring the story to life.

I’ll be looking for more in the series soon.
