I read this book when it first came out in 2008. It was a class assignment to read every week and I just in 8th grade. This book spoke to me! Not because I had a similar story, but for a reason I wouldn't learn until much later in life. I am now 24 and have a longing to be a foster and foster-adopt parent. I never thought it would be the path my life would take, but Ashley's books have solidified my goals of fostering. Thank you for sharing your story, your books have truly shaped my perspective and goals throughout my life.

I thought it was a pretty good book and recommend others to try reading it, it makes you think about what's happening to the world and what other people have to go through even if they have already had a rough life👍

Being a foster parent and in the process of adoption myself, it made things & actions more understandable.

I chose to read this book because it really jumped out at me, and I have always wondered what is it like for someone in the foster care? Now I know, it is not all roses and sunshine, and I felt that we were with you the entire way, so well written and you can tell it’s pure from the heart. Thank you for sharing your story, it brought tears to my eyes in many places, and I could not put it down.

This book is a great read/listen for anyone wanting to have a better understanding of our country’s child welfare system, how broken it is and the damage caused to our children brought into it. I believe we all have a role in caring for these kiddos.

Insight into the broken system that is our “Protective Services”

I work in foster care and this book hit home to things we try to prevent. It was eye opening and heart breaking. Even working in the system? It’s jarring to be reminded of the things children keep to themselves; her thought processes was just one thing. Thank you for sharing your story.

Sad & beautiful
