Acerca de esta escucha
One thousand miles behind the iron curtain, he stood for freedom
The number one best-selling author and award-winning anchor of Special Report with Bret Baier reveals as never before Reagan’s dramatic battle to win the Cold War.
In his acclaimed best seller Three Days in January, Bret Baier illuminated the extraordinary leadership of President Dwight Eisenhower at the dawn of the Cold War. Now in his highly anticipated new history, Three Days in Moscow, Baier explores the dramatic endgame of America’s long struggle with the Soviet Union and President Ronald Reagan’s central role in shaping the world we live in today.
On May 31, 1988, Reagan stood on Russian soil and addressed a packed audience at Moscow State University, delivering a remarkable - yet now largely forgotten - speech that capped his first visit to the Soviet capital. This fourth in a series of summits between Reagan and Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev, was a dramatic coda to their tireless efforts to reduce the nuclear threat. More than that, Reagan viewed it as “a grand historical moment”: an opportunity to light a path for the Soviet people - toward freedom, human rights, and a future he told them they could embrace if they chose. It was the first time an American president gave a speech about freedom and human rights on Russian soil. Reagan had once called the Soviet Union an “evil empire.” Now, saying that depiction was from “another time”, he beckoned the Soviets to join him in a new vision of the future. The importance of Reagan’s Moscow speech was largely overlooked at the time, but the new world he spoke of was fast approaching; the following year, in November 1989, the Berlin Wall fell and the Soviet Union began to disintegrate, leaving the United States the sole superpower on the world stage.
Today, the end of the Cold War is perhaps the defining historical moment of the past half century, and must be understood if we are to make sense of America’s current place in the world, amid the re-emergence of US-Russian tensions during Vladimir Putin’s tenure. Using Reagan’s three days in Moscow to tell the larger story of the president’s critical and often misunderstood role in orchestrating a successful, peaceful ending to the Cold War, Baier illuminates the character of one of our nation’s most venerated leaders - and reveals the unique qualities that allowed him to succeed in forming an alliance for peace with the Soviet Union, when his predecessors had fallen short.

When the British fought the young United States during the War of 1812, they knew that taking the mouth of the Mississippi River was the key to crippling their former colony. In March 1836, the Mexican army led by General Santa Anna massacred more than 200 Texians who had been trapped in the Alamo. After 13 days of fighting, American legends Jim Bowie and Davey Crockett died there, along with other Americans who had moved to Texas looking for a fresh start. It was a crushing blow to Texas' fight for freedom. But the story doesn’t end there. The defeat galvanized the Texian settlers, and under General Sam Houston’s leadership, they rallied. Six weeks after the Alamo, Houston and his band of settlers defeated Santa Anna’s army in a shocking victory.

When Thomas Jefferson became president in 1801, America faced a crisis. The new nation was deeply in debt and needed its economy to grow quickly, but its merchant ships were under attack. Pirates from North Africa's Barbary coast routinely captured American sailors and held them as slaves, demanding ransom and tribute payments far beyond what the new country could afford.

When President Theodore Roosevelt welcomed the country’s most visible Black man, Booker T. Washington, into his circle of counselors in 1901, the two confronted a shocking and violent wave of racist outrage. In the previous decade, Jim Crow laws had legalized discrimination in the South, eroding social and economic gains for former slaves. Lynching was on the rise, and Black Americans faced new barriers to voting. Slavery had been abolished, but if newly freed citizens were condemned to lives as share croppers, how much improvement would their lives really see?

The Bible reveals not just butterflies and broken hearts. In Scripture, we see God’s beautiful design for the partnership of marriage. We witness friendships that cross all boundaries. We watch as families navigate the many seasons of life. Our guiding example for them all is the deepest, most abiding, foundational love ever known: God’s unconditional love for His people. In The Love Stories of the Bible Speak, Shannon Bream draws lessons from the good, the bad, and the ugly of Biblical romances, friendships, and families.

Historia
When President Theodore Roosevelt welcomed the country’s most visible Black man, Booker T. Washington, into his circle of counselors in 1901, the two confronted a shocking and violent wave of racist outrage. In the previous decade, Jim Crow laws had legalized discrimination in the South, eroding social and economic gains for former slaves. Lynching was on the rise, and Black Americans faced new barriers to voting. Slavery had been abolished, but if newly freed citizens were condemned to lives as share croppers, how much improvement would their lives really see?

My first book using Audible.
This is my 1st book using Audible. Bret Baier's familiar voice made listening to this book a great experience. Bret's work on this historical journey back through time, opened new perspectives to events that even though I lived through, new little about. I highly recomend this book to anyone who wishes to learn more about the great President Ronald Reagan.

EXCELLENT READ ON A GREAT AMERICAN LEGEND!
Really enjoyed this audio book - The author did a great job on my all-time favorite Commander-In-Chief during my own military career. Great telling of his Presidency and the Soviet Union leadership during President Reagan's leadership. Worth the listen! A+

A great listen!!
Brett does a masterful job of narrating his masterfully written book. Although I was a close watcher of President Reagan, I didn’t remember a lot of what the book points out.
Just a great read which puts a smile on your face, especially during this tumultuous time!!!.

Bringing Down Communism
Another good look at how President Ronald Reagan brought communism to it's knees. A very interesting insight into how the president's speeches were prepared and how much time he spent battling his own staff.

A nice work of history
This is more than just a book specific to Reagan in Moscow. It’s a biography of Ronald Reagan and his Presidency. It is the story of the meetings with Gorbachev and his trip to Moscow. As well as the collapse of the Soviet Union and the fall of the Berlin Wall during the Presidencies of George Bush and Boris Yeltsin. A very interesting book.

Solid But A Bit Too Much
Let me say upfront I’m a mwm who is conservative but no fan of out current President. I was leery of buying this book as I am anytime a news anchor writes a book. While this was a very fine book I got the feeling Mr. Baier went out of his way to make tell a story without the full back story. Just one small point would be when describing the meeting between Gorbachev and Reagan in Geneva. How Reagan appeared to be the young vibrant politico and the impression that sent to the world. An absolute direct correlation would have been when Kennedy and Kruschev met in Geneva. The greeting too much more than just a picture. In short, I think the book should have ended without comparing President Trump to President Reagan. I felt like Mr. Baier was trying too hard to draw a parallel between the two. Mr. Baier would have given himself and his book more credibility by not making those comparisons (for one I don’t think President Trump sees the positive in everything while President Reagan seemed to) and giving a broader historical narrative even if it did mention a democrat.
