The New York Times bestseller now in paperback with a new epilogue.

In March 1836, the Mexican army led by General Santa Anna massacred more than two hundred Texians who had been trapped in the Alamo. After thirteen days of fighting, American legends Jim Bowie and Davey Crockett died there, along with other Americans who had moved to Texas looking for a fresh start. It was a crushing blow to Texas’s fight for freedom.

But the story doesn’t end there. The defeat galvanized the Texian settlers, and under General Sam Houston’s leadership they rallied. Six weeks after the Alamo, Houston and his band of settlers defeated Santa Anna’s army in a shocking victory, winning the independence for which so many had died.

Sam Houston and the Alamo Avengers recaptures this pivotal war that changed America forever, and sheds light on the tightrope all war heroes walk between courage and calculation. Thanks to Kilmeade’s storytelling, a new generation of readers will remember the Alamo—and recognize the lesser known heroes who snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

"As a historian who has spent years working with the public, I believe the stories we tell should be accessible, interesting, and accurate. Brian Kilmeade hits all three points in Sam Houston & the Alamo Avengers."

I've read a few of Brian Kilmeade's books and really like the content and subject matter. Good history books that take on events rather than sections of history and the stories are not overly long.

Really wish the author would have let a professional read the book as that would have enhanced the overall quality.

Great book, ok reading

.... the author is no reader. He sounds almost like a frat boy in his enthusiasm. But on the other hand, his absolute passion, for the subject works a certain degree of forgiveness. The Scholarship is not brilliant, nor is his writing scintillating… I've read, perhaps a dozen or more books on the Texas revolution that are superior… And yet his only real trespass seems to be an admiration for "Few against many" and "Liberty against Tyranny". if we only had more historians willing to embrace these evident truths rather than dark revisionism and cynical backbiting.

I certainly agree with other listeners...

Great story just didn’t care for Brian’s reading of the story. Another experienced narrator preferred.

Great historical account

I learned about the Alamo in grammar school but this audio brought out a lot of questions that I have wondered about. Little known facts that I didn’t know learned a lot from the story

My Texas

A good beginners history of the revolution and the characters that played it out. I was hoping for a little more in depth about a lot of things, but overall was good. Would recommend to those unfamiliar with Texas history.

A good overview of the Texas revolution

Very well written book. Would have given it 5 stars, had it been narrated by a Texan. The way he said things was distracting at times.

Great Read, Ok Narrator

Brian Kilmeade is obviously a huge fan of the Texas Revolution based on the gusto with which he reads the accurate account he has penned. As a descendant of a delegate to the Convention of 1832 and the Consultation of 1835 I have studied many accounts of the period. As a sixth generation Texan a few names of people and places could have been pronounced better, but we can let that slide, ya’ll.
