This 1769 edition is highly sought after due to being more reader/listener friendly than the 1611 since many typos were fixed.... Brief recorded lectures on Patristic writings
These are short discussions of Sts. Augustine, Jerome, and Ambrose, delivered by Thomas Merton to fellow monks at the abbey. Key selections are read in Latin, then translated and discussed by Thomas Merton, with questions and answers from the monks. It is pretty quick-fire delivery: They have about 20 minutes for each talk, ending with a short prayer.
This is a special-interest work (reason for the 3's), being concerned as it is with the practical implications of these ancient books for members of a monastic order. It does provide good examples of Merton's lively teaching and lecturing style and his particular "take" on theological subjects.
