“Vampires are making a comeback, and Yuszczuk is spearheading their revival with this bloody novel.”
The New York Times Book Review

It is the nineteenth century, the twilight of Europe’s bloody bacchanals, and a vampire must escape. She arrives to the coast of Buenos Aires and, for the second time in her life, watches as villages transform into a cosmopolitan city. She adapts, intermingles with humans, and attempts to be discreet.

In present-day Buenos Aires, a woman finds herself at an impasse as she grapples with her mother's terminal illness and her own relationship to motherhood. When she first encounters the vampire in a cemetery, something ignites inside the two women—and they cross a threshold from which there’s no turning back.

With echoes of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Thirst plays with the boundaries of the Gothic genre while exploring the limits of female agency, all-consuming desire, and the fragile vitality of even the most immortal of creatures.

“Channeling Carmen Maria Machado and Anne Rice, Yuszczuk reimagines the vampire novel, with a distinctly Latin American feminist Gothic twist.”

Not what I was expecting. Thought this would be more queer, first of all—bit of a disappointment what was delivered. Worst though, is that while the first half of the book has the vampire as the narrator and is generally interesting, the second half changes narrators and is incredibly, painfully boring.

First half alright, second half drags on and on

Really enjoyed the story. Could have been fleshed out more and not rushed through time. I would have enjoyed the history and culture experiences. Definitely could have been a trilogy! Hoping for a sequel!!

Very realistic and detailed

I hate that I have to leave 15 words to be able to leave a review that's stupid why can't I just say I like the book and I think you'll enjoy it too

Great storyline

The first part is much more interesting than the second one, but overall so good to listen in audio. It was so fun and the ending is CRAZY.

Great vampire story

Not enough story to keep me interested or to want to finish the book, I expected this to be more exciting, interesting, unfortunately, it was not….

Could not stay interested in the story

The performance was good. The prose was flowery and not engaging. The story was somewhat interesting. The ending didn’t seem fully worked out.
