Fun time listening!

I loved it! It was super playful and light, with just the right amount of emotions!

A book with a tiny twist...

Few weeks ago I read a similar book, very similar story line but this one as a small difference so I guess it has the right to exist. Towards the end there is a sex scene just because the writer thought if there is no sex scene it will not be a good sell... completely out of place. And illogical.
Narration was Ok but could be better.

Great book that I only wish was longer

I love this author and own both of her other books already. I jumped at the chance to add this one to my collection and I don’t regret it. The characters were funny and the story was engaging. The ending was good but I wish it could have been a bit longer. Maybe an epilogue or something but the last line had me laughing. It’s more that I just wanted more time with the characters rather than needing it though. Don’t wait on this one, it’s definitely worth the credit.

TERRIBLE ACCENT!

I enjoyed the book, but the narration was absolutely the worst! I’m from East Texas and I almost couldn’t listen to this cringeworthy attempt at at southern accent. Literally would’ve been better had she not attempted one at all. If someone is going to narrate using an accent, one should at least be able to perform said accent. I hope she refrains from EVER trying to use this accent again because literally no southerner I have ever known has spoken even remotely like that.

Hilarious! Beautiful!

This story was funny from start to finish. Beautifully written and great narration. I wish it were longer!!

Strong emotions and vivid imagery.

My gay soul loves this plot right from the start. Makes me smile ear to ear by chapter 2.

It's an all around good time with good vibes and a lot of lovable characters.

The voices are nice, but it sounds a little off till you get used to it. Increasing the speed can help.

Another Amazing KL Hughes audiobook!

HEY, AUDIBLE, can we please get more KL Hughes?!! Life is short and her books are just too good :) so, I knew I'd like this book, because "The Art of Us" blew my mind and gave me all kinds of feelings, and "Popcorn Love" was adorable and sexy and I loved both audiobooks (I dont re-listen to many books, but KL Hughes I have) so... the Wrong McElroy... at first I was iffy about the twangy, Arkansas accent (not my fav thing accent) of some of the characters but it sort of grew on me as I I quickly began to like all the book's characters. I really enjoyed the witty dialogue, and how Lizzy and Fiona fell for each other in days, but it seemed like they knew each other longer. I also liked that the siblings weren't assholes about the whole situation when the truth was revealed on xmas day. It really was a fun listen and I'm sad, wondering how long until the next KL Hughes audiobook shows up on audible????

Full of laughter and love.

what alot of fun. Dialog between family members and family Christmas traditions was hilarious. All in the background of a love story. it was like the Beverly Hillbillies in 2019. great story and the narrator was the best

A little slow, but fun and surprisingly poignant

Firstly, don’t go into this book expecting much plot-wise. At times the story drags quite a bit, and when listening I more than once wondered if there was a plot anywhere on the horizon. For a time it felt a lot like a wash, rinse, repeat cycle of very long, leisurely scenes with the McElroys (who are admittedly a lot of fun) followed by recycled “moments” between Lizzie and Fiona that would get interrupted only for there to be another “moment” down the road that was inevitably interrupted again. But if you’ve read “Popcorn Love” by this writer you know that that’s part of her style of writing; lots of unapologetically uneventful moments where you just hang out with the characters while they talk about this, that, and the other. It was difficult for me to readjust to (it’s been quite some time since I listened to “Popcorn Love”) but eventually I did adjust, and settled in to just enjoy it.

There are some really delightful things that happen in this story that actually made me emotional. The scenes toward the end especially, when secrets come out and have to be dealt with, had me nearly ugly crying. I also identified a great deal with Fiona’s experience of racism and much of what she said/thought on the subject. KL Hughes put into words what so many minorities go through on a daily basis. It’s an important conversation to have, and I have not seen it had anywhere in lesfic but here. So, major kudos to Ms. Hughes on that.

As for the central romance and the characters: the MvElroys are a hoot. And I quite liked Lizzie and Fiona. Their chemistry is off the charts, and all the interrupted “moments” that mildly irritated me for a spell eventually evolved into a very fun, satisfying, (sexy! Holy moly!) relationship. I liked that the story ended without any grand declarations of instalove or promises made to uproot their lives to be together. Instead the reader/listener leaves these ladies to enjoy the promising start to something sweet and new.

Lastly, this was my first experience with Nicole Blessing as a narrator, but I think she did an amazing job. The characters’ voices were distinctive, her reading was well paced and intuitive, and she really acts out the dialogue. I’d happily listen to something she’s narrated again.
