Resumen del Editor

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of The Woman Who Walked into the Sea by Mark Douglas-Home, read by David Monteath.

The daughter who nobody wanted learns the truth about the mother she never knew.

Cal McGill is a unique investigator and oceanographer who uses his expertise to locate things - and sometimes people - lost or missing at sea. His expertise could unravel the haunting mystery of why, 26 years ago on a remote Scottish beach, Megan Bates strode out into the cold ocean and let the waves wash her away.

Megan's daughter, Violet Wells, was abandoned as a baby on the steps of a local hospital just hours before the mother she never knew took her own life. As McGill is drawn into Violet's search for the truth, he encounters a coastal community divided by obsession and grief and united only by a conviction that its secrets should stay buried....

Every bit as good as the first - superb performance

I confess I went searching for more performances from David Monteath. Having discovered The Sea Detective I plunged headlong further into the series. I find the humanity of his series every bit as interesting as the science of oceanography that was so front and center in the first book and continues to have a background presence here.

The depiction of a suspicious small village in Scotland is wonderful and the characters well developed. Loved it and headed straight for the third.

Slow start

I found it a slow starter, but once i got hooked (around chapter 9 or 10) I was thoroughly engaged until the end.

I you haven't read the classic, Rebecca, do so sometime. In this book's opening chapters I thought I'd
stumbled into the 21st century's update. The author sets us up in
today's rural, ocean side Scotland with
a wealthy estate, a haunting past reaching into an innocent woman's future ... and it works. This one is hard to put down.

A great find!

I’m so glad I ignored the bad reviews. I loved this book. The narrator is brilliant. The way he reads Duncan broke my heart.
The characters are well developed and multifaceted. You get to experience the perspective of several of them as the story unfolds. The author has a subtle way of building suspense until suddenly I’ve been sitting in my car for 20 minutes so I don’t have to interrupt the story to run inside.
I’m so glad I picked this series!

A Soap Opera

Worse than American day time TV Soaps and British West Enders. Having listened to the first in this series I crossed my fingers and hoped for a continuation of what could be a different approach to modern detectives. The first book held promise but I lost interest on occasion and had to go back to pick up the story. This author hasn't figured out what to emphasize as his main story. I haven't finished this second book and am disinclined to do so. Perhaps one more chapter.

Great all the way around!

I thoroughly enjoyed book 1, as well as this one!
Love the location/settings, interesting stories as well as characters. The narrator is excellent and perfect for this author. Hopefully there is a book 3!

Surprise continues… really well written

It takes a remarkable talent to create an incredible mystery that completely fools it’s readers, and yet makes perfect sense. I promise you’ll love it for that alone.

Another good listen.

Another interesting story that was well read. Worth the listen by anyone starving for a book, or even just someone with the munchies for a little something mysterious.

Does the Author hates women ?

I don't know, maybe I'm getting old because I'm sick of women being written as dimwits. This is a good writer, yet in the 1st of the series he has a vile man behaving with hatred to his young female detective with every word and thought and she sucks it all up too. Mustn't let him know the vile personal remarks hurt.
All the women in the books have the same gormless spines.

Tired of those male writers who write running commentary of a grown women's thought processes and get it so entirely wrong. I'm thinking these days it's deliberate.
I feel like the author has never had a close sharing relationship with an actual female.
All women are not insipid, nor are they cruel murderers of their own sex..they don't ruin their opportunities to change their future. Nor seek no compensation when monetarily harmed n
Like I said maybe I'm getting old, cos I truly resent women being portrayed ad evil killers or stupid gits that let everything from punch in the ear to vicious conspirators get away with it all.
This book is unbelievable.
