For some reason, in this book, the fairy holdings are pronounced "nos" instead of "nows".
I HATE IT WHEN PRONOUNCIATIONS ARE CHANGED LIKE THAT!
Especially as this is book 8 with the same narrator.
Even worse the nos/nows are referred to more than usual in this story.
it was like a great singer Hitting a flat note.
Repeatedly.
otherwise it's a great story and I do think Mary Robinette does a great job.

My favorite character for this book: Believe it or not, Simon!
There are too many twists in this one to speak much of it and not give something away, so I'll skip the spoilers, but I will say that I started "noticing" the narrator again. Just when I had gotten to the point where Mary Robinette Kowal's speaking voice was good enough (or comfortable enough to my ear) to play background to the story.... I'm not sure what happened, but Tybalt's voice has changed somewhat and that threw me a bit. I am glad that the Valley Girl accents have softened a bit, but I do wish this narrator would be more consistent. It's not bad, exactly, and it would not keep me from recommending this novel to anyone who likes fantasy, but I have definitely heard better. Oh well, perhaps she was a bit under the weather? Or just trying something new? Not sure, but it was a bit jarring on the ears.
The book is still one of those rare novels which comes to life, leaping from the page and into a reader's (listener's) imagination. You can see it in your mind's eye as the narration takes hold, so I cannot complain too much. I will say... The villian is a bit of a quandary. So enjoyable!
Whoa! Great writing... Narration is slipping
