In 1947, returning to the UK with two young children to support, Margaret Durrell starts a boarding house in Bournemouth. But any hopes of respectability are dashed as the tenants reveal themselves to be a host of eccentrics: from a painter of nudes to a pair of glamorous young nurses whose late-night shifts combined with an ever-revolving roster of gentleman callers leading to a neighbourhood rumour that Margo is running a brothel. Margo's own two sons, Gerry and Nicholas, prove to be every bit as mischievous as their famous Uncle Gerald.

Entertaining!
I was transported to my most happy place listening to this book.
The narrator was excellent.
I love all Durrells books. The dry humor is spot in.

Good old fashioned fun
Cosy and fun. Interesting listen with a great narrator. Definitely got a sense of place.

Delightful!
I enjoy the writing of Gerry Durrell, always! The vocabulary and descriptive qualities are superb! The reading of this book is lyrical and I love it! I also enjoy God’s creatures on this earth as does he. I have read many of his books and was unsure about quality of the narrator. However, I am thrilled with the presentation of this book.🦭

Wonderful
Gerald Durrell takes you with him on his fascinating adventures around the world to capture animals for his zoo. I love these gentle stories that are full of delights, suspense, and amazing animal and human personalities. If you need a break from news, sm, and the many tensions around us escape another time and place with Darrell’s books. You’ll feel inspired and refreshed!
