Jacky Faber, rich from her exploits diving for Spanish gold, has purchased the Lorelei Lee to carry passengers across the Atlantic. Believing she has been absolved of past sins against the Crown, Jacky docks in London to take on her crew, but is instead arrested and sentenced to life in the newly formed penal colony in Australia. To add insult to injury, the Lorelei Lee is confiscated to carry Jacky and more than 200 female convicts to populate New South Wales.
Not one to give in to self pity, Jacky rallies her sisters to "better" their position - resulting in wild escapades, brushes with danger, and much hilarity. Will Jacky find herself a founding mother of New South Wales, Australia? Not if she has anything to do about it!
L. A. Meyer received a master of fine arts from Boston University, and is currently the curator and exhibitor at the Clair de Loon Gallery in Bar Harbor, Maine. He lives in Corea, Maine. Katherine Kellgren has recorded over 60 audiobooks including Bloody Jack, which won an Audie Award, a Publishers Weekly Listen Up Award, and ForeWord magazine's Audiobook of the Year.

The songs and various dialectsWas there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Would you consider the audio edition of The Wake of the Lorelei Lee to be better than the print version?
Definitely. The narrator truly makes the story. What other book might you compare The Wake of the Lorelei Lee to and why?
None like it.What about Katherine Kellgren’s performance did you like?
Everything. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The end. I like ending that aren't expected. You would have assumed she would have finally rushed to marry Jaime. But not!!Any additional comments?

Run Time: 14 hrs and 53 mins
Genre: Mostly YA Adventure and then it flips to Adultish Adventure
Summary:
This is another high-seas adventure featuring the crazy, smart, sassy, sometimes dumb, and very impulsive Mary “Jacky” Faber. Jacky gets arrested in England and sentenced to an Australian penal colony.
Additional Comments:
• It’s got about 7-hours of random, sometimes raunchy filler material. Long-winded does not begin to describe it. I think it takes about 3 hours to get to the arrest that sends Jacky on this journey. There are also a LOT of side trails, some necessary, some not so much.
• Katherine Kellgren’s performance is stellar as usual. She had a lovely singing voice, but even so, most of those were just filler.
• Jacky seems to work hard at keeping her girls out of trouble, but then has 0 trouble being the “pet” of a Chinese pirate. That alone would flip this well out of YA range for me, which is kinda a shame because the rest of the series is absolutely fantastic and YA friendly.
• I don’t remember much about Joseph Jarred so the tension with him just came across as uber weird.
• Content Warning: There’s a LOT of cursing, some understandable. It includes 4 ish f-bombs, mostly by Jaime or the Irish crew. Their sections were fine, but the story could very easily have skipped over those or summarized later.
Conclusion:
This is an adult version of Jacky Faber. She’s still spunky and on many adventures, but if you’re giving this to kids, tap out at book 7 and mentally end with happily ever after.

Where does The Wake of the Lorelei Lee rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Right near the top. It's not the prose or the story (which are good) so much as the fantastic performance by the narrator. It's pure entertainment that makes you taste the salt air and feel waves. If you are interested in nautical history or tall ships, if you like historical fiction, early 19th century in particular, you should try this series. Start with Blood Jack and enjoy. What did you like best about this story?
Ms. Kellgren is a one woman tour-de-force. There are so many, many characters, accents, regional nuances and languages in the series and she manages to not only capture them but make them real.Which character – as performed by Katherine Kellgren – was your favorite?
She IS Jacky Faber. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I definitely did. However, I'm getting pretty nervous because there are only two books left in the series!Superlatives Depleted!
