Thomas Sowell
Acerca de esta escucha
In this devastating critique of the mindset behind the failed social policies of the past 30 years, Thomas Sowell sees what has happened not as a series of isolated mistakes, but as a logical consequence of a vision whose defects have led to disasters in education, crime, family disintegration, and more. This is an empirical study in which “politically correct” theory is repeatedly confronted with facts, and the sharp contradictions between the two are explained in terms of a set of self-congratulatory assumptions held by political and intellectual elites.
These elites—the anointed—often consider themselves “thinking people,” but this thinking is actually rhetorical assertion, followed by evasions of mounting evidence against these assertions. The vision of the anointed is seen not merely as a failure but as a fatal danger to the values and the future of American society.

The quest for social justice is a powerful crusade of our time, with an appeal to many different people, for many different reasons. But those who use the same words do not always present the same meanings. Clarifying those meanings is the first step toward finding out what we agree on and disagree on. From there, it is largely a question of what the facts are. Social Justice Fallacies reveals how many things that are thought to be true simply cannot stand up to documented facts, which are often the opposite of what is widely believed.

Thomas Sowell has a different idea about how economics should be taught. With this groundbreaking introduction to economics, Sowell has thrown out the graphs, statistics, and jargon. Learning economics, he believes, should be relaxing - and even enjoyable. In this edition, Basic Economics has been revised and expanded to address the new concerns of the 21st century. It's focus has become more international, including the range of economic problems faced by foreign countries around the world.

Historia
This reissue of Thomas Sowell’s classic study of decision making, which includes a preface by the author, updates his seminal work in the context of The Vision of the Anointed. Sowell, one of America’s most celebrated public intellectuals, describes in concrete detail how knowledge is shared and disseminated throughout modern society. He warns that society suffers from an ever-widening gap between firsthand knowledge and decision making—a gap that threatens not only our economic and political efficiency but our very freedom.

Most commentators look at the issue of immigration from the viewpoint of immediate politics. In doing so, they focus on only a piece of the issue and lose touch with the larger picture. Now Thomas Sowell offers a sweeping historical and global look at a large number of migrations over a long period of time. Migrations and Cultures shows the persistence of cultural traits in particular racial and ethnic groups.

Thomas Sowell is one of America’s leading voices on matters of race and ethnicity. In his book, Inside American Education, he surveyed the ills of American education from the primary grades to graduate school with “an impressive range of knowledge and acuity of observation”, according to the Wall Street Journal. Now, in his book Race and Culture, he asks the question: “What is it that allows certain groups to get ahead?” and the answer will undoubtedly create debates for years to come.

In American Marxism, Mark Levin explained how Marxist ideology has invaded our society and culture. In doing so, he exposed the institutions, scholars, and activists leading the revolution. Now, he picks up where he left off: to hold responsible the true malefactors steering our country down the wrong path. Insightful and hard-hitting as ever, Levin proves that since its establishment, the Democrat Party has set out to rewrite history and destroy the foundation of freedom in America.

These wide-ranging essays - on many individual political, economic, cultural, and legal issues - have as a recurring, underlying theme the decline of the values and institutions that have sustained and advanced American society for more than two centuries. This decline has been more than erosion. It has, in many cases, been a deliberate dismantling of American values and institutions by people convinced that their superior wisdom and virtue must override both the traditions of the country and the will of the people.

This book is about the great moral issues underlying many of the headline-making political controversies of our times. It is not a comforting book but a book about disturbing and dangerous trends. The Quest for Cosmic Justice shows how confused conceptions of justice end up promoting injustice, how confused conceptions of equality end up promoting inequality, and how the tyranny of social visions prevents many people from confronting the actual consequences of their own beliefs and policies.

In this book, which the author calls a "culmination of 30 years of work in the history of ideas", Sowell attempts to explain the ideological difference between liberals and conservatives as a disagreement over the moral potential inherent in nature. Those who see that potential as limited prefer to constrain governmental authority, he argues. They feel that reform is difficult and often dangerous, and put their faith in family, custom, law, and traditional institutions.

In Wealth, Poverty, and Politics, Thomas Sowell, one of the foremost conservative public intellectuals in the country, argues that political and ideological struggles have led to dangerous confusion about income inequality in America.

Historia
These wide-ranging essays - on many individual political, economic, cultural, and legal issues - have as a recurring, underlying theme the decline of the values and institutions that have sustained and advanced American society for more than two centuries. This decline has been more than erosion. It has, in many cases, been a deliberate dismantling of American values and institutions by people convinced that their superior wisdom and virtue must override both the traditions of the country and the will of the people.

Historia
This book is about the great moral issues underlying many of the headline-making political controversies of our times. It is not a comforting book but a book about disturbing and dangerous trends. The Quest for Cosmic Justice shows how confused conceptions of justice end up promoting injustice, how confused conceptions of equality end up promoting inequality, and how the tyranny of social visions prevents many people from confronting the actual consequences of their own beliefs and policies.

The truth...whether you like it or not.
It's rare to get an unapologetic dose of truth these days. Most people, books, entertainment, etc. are geared towards telling people what they want to hear, because the truth makes us too uncomfortable... Not Thomas Sowell. Dr. Sowell is going to tell you the truth, whether or not you like or agree with it. This is a must read for everyone, regardless of your political or social leanings. Be warned, its not a colorful & exciting novel, its a cold stark look at reality. If you don't have the intellectual attention span you may wish to continue living the lies that the anointed of society have laid out for you. For everyone else....here's the red pill.

Should be required reading
Thomas Sowell debunks the words of throes retyping to change society by making decisions for us and harming most in their wake. As we also know once a government program is started it can never be killed.

Listen to Thomas Sowell and your brain will grow
What made the experience of listening to The Vision of the Anointed the most enjoyable?
The organization and logic of his ideas, observations and principles make Thomas Sowell the greatest proponent of freedom alive today. Many think he speaks of economics but he reveals the threats to freedom by the elitist in our government and other institutions.
What other book might you compare The Vision of the Anointed to and why?
Intellectuals and Society, by Thomas Sowell
What does Tom Weiner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great Insights
Sowell puts into words many things I had assumed and new things I hadn't. He describes the left, not in the usual Fox News way but backed with data, reasoning and evidence. He razes the contrivances of the left with the wrecking ball of facts.

Please Read this Book
Sowell's thesis is intriguing and his argument defending this thesis is compelling. My observations and experience confirms his thesis. The question that Sowell left unanswered is: if it's true, what is to be done about it?

Required Reading for Everyone
Although this book was published in 1995, every sentence within is applicable and relevant to 2016. had I not known what year this book was published, I would have guessed it was published last week.
This is a well thought out and welll written book. Sowell takes difficult subject matter, such as explaining judicial activism, and makes it understandable for even nonlawyers, making it an excellent primer for anyone interested in American politics. Quite honestly, this book should be required reading in every college political science course.

The Vision of “The Anointed”: A Must Read
The reader may be shocked to discover this book was written in 1995. After reading it, one could only be lead to wonder if Thomas Sowell is an intellectual/academic … or a prophet!
He so perfectly describes the world of the “Anointed” that exists in 2018, it makes you realize that our society is nothing but doomed to repeat all the disasters we read about in our history books.
The ever-growing enthusiasm for Socialism in the so-called Millennial Generation is a clear indication that this political cancer that inevitably brings death and destruction in its wake is about to flare up again from the period of remission it was in. Us Children of the 60’s that thought this disease had been “cured” when we observed the fall of the USSR and the Capitalization of China were definitely overconfident in our assumption. But no, the clueless and naive Millennials are ever willing to fall for the Socialists rhetoric of “protecting the little guy” and “equality of outcome.”
In spite of this amazing book, and all the excellent works of Mr. Sowell— the West, the USA included — is doomed.

Ingenious Insight
Sowell has an insight into the machine that is the political Left that is accurate and complex. He works through the social vision of the elites, explaining their worldview and then demonstrates how this vision impacts their policy.
