A bit of a complicated mess

Let me preface by stating clearly that books 1 and 2 of the series were great. Interesting and unique characters placed into tense situations with plenty of growth opportunities and story development. This title, book 3, seems to fit in-between 1 and 2 from a timeline perspective for reasons I won't divulge because [spoilers], but it isn't specified directly in the introduction, only through inference. The story and the characters, with the single exception of Derrick/Derek "D" remain stagnant. This book is all about D, and takes place in essentially one location in a relatively short period of time. On top of that, the narration has many numerous production quality issues throughout. I'm saddened to rate it so low. [Disclosure: I received this title for free and listened at 2.0x.]
