An Unexpected Pleasure
I bought this title expecting it to be a cute cozy mystery that would help me fall asleep. Instead I was captivated by both the story of Daisy, an abandoned child taken in and raised by a family of bakers in current time, and Susie, a slave child from the 1800s who seemed to have disappeared in thin air.
It was heart rending and amazing. A great book for any age.

I understand these feelings.
Daisy’s story is one that I can relate to. I have a similar situation with my birth father as she does with her birth mother. I was very impressed by how the author was able to capture the emotion and depth of Daisy’s sorrow over her rejection. It is something I have myself felt by not fitting into the mold of the “perfect” family. I found this story and Daisy’s determination to become more very reassuring as I have been able to find myself rising above the situation that was responsible for my existence.
