First published in the late nineteenth century, The Time Machine captures an era obsessed with progress, industry, and the hidden costs of social inequality. As the Time Traveller ventures into distant ages, Wells probes questions of evolution, power, and what might become of humanity itself. This refreshed edition invites you to feel the awe, dread, and excitement of discovery—perfect for students, book clubs, and curious readers ready to experience a timeless adventure anew.

I decided to buy the book and when I saw that the Audible version was included with my subscription I downloaded it and decided to give it a listen. I didn’t know until I started that THIS version was made with AI voice.
The first one for me.
- Book Review: The Time Machine is a classic tale and I overall enjoyed it, but I do think it’s a little of its time. It’s somewhat of a… simple story. A brief story. I did appreciate the thought provoking idea that the world can turn into something we wouldn’t recognize in the future if we don’t take better care of our actions both seen and unforeseen.
Overall I’d say I liked the story, but I didn’t love it. Decent story to make you think, but I can’t say I’m a changed person having read it.
- The Narration: I’m old enough to remember the speak and spell and the stereotypical “robot voice” in Sci-Fi movies and in truth it’s quite amazing how far we’ve come in the advancement of a synthetic voice.
However, using the word “narrate” isn’t quite right. This book was read out loud, but it wasn’t “narrated”.
Although it does sound pretty realistic on the surface, it lacks any emotional and character nuance. It’s just one tone the whole time. No emotion. No relaying the curiosity, fear, wonder of the Time Traveler. It made it a bit difficult for me to connect to the story and MC because of it.
In conclusion, don’t worry our beloved Audio Narrators. You will not be replaced. Your Human touch and emotional understanding still reigns supreme.
