Acerca de esta escucha
A stunning thriller from the bestselling author of Scrublands and Treasure & Dirt.
A man runs for his life in a forest. A woman plans sabotage. A body is unearthed.
Newly minted homicide detective Nell Buchanan returns to her home town, annoyed at being assigned a decades-old murder — a 'file and forget'.
But this is no ordinary cold case, as the discovery of more bodies triggers a chain of escalating events in the present day. As Nell starts to join the pieces together, she begins to question how well she truly knows those closest to her. Could her own family be implicated in the crimes?
The nearer Nell comes to uncovering the secrets of the past, the more dangerous the present becomes for her, as she battles shadowy assailants and sinister forces. Can she survive this harrowing investigation and what price will she have to pay for the truth? Gripping and atmospheric, The Tilt is a stunning multi-layered novel by the acclaimed and award-winning author of the international bestsellers Scrublands, Silver, Trust and Treasure & Dirt.

Historia
In Riversend, an isolated rural community afflicted by an endless drought, a young priest does the unthinkable, killing five parishioners before being taken down himself. A year later, accompanied by his own demons from wartime reporting, journalist Martin Scarsden arrives in Riversend. His assignment is to describe how the townspeople are coping. But as Martin meets the locals and hears their version of events, he begins to realize that the accepted wisdom - that the priest was a pedophile whose imminent exposure was the catalyst for the shooting - may be wrong.

On Memorial Day in Jewel, Minnesota, the body of wealthy landowner Jimmy Quinn is found floating in the Alabaster River, dead from a shotgun blast. The investigation falls to Sheriff Brody Dern, a highly decorated war hero who still carries the physical and emotional scars from his military service. Even before Dern has the results of the autopsy, vicious rumors begin to circulate that the killer must be Noah Bluestone, a Native American WWII veteran who has recently returned to Jewel with a Japanese wife.

Historia
Northern Ireland, spring 1981. Hunger strikes, riots, power cuts, a homophobic serial killer with a penchant for opera, and a young woman’s suicide that may yet turn out to be murder: on the surface, the events are unconnected, but then things—and people—aren’t always what they seem. Detective Sergeant Duffy is the man tasked with trying to get to the bottom of it all. It’s no easy job—especially when it turns out that one of the victims was involved in the IRA but was last seen discussing business with someone from the loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force.

At the end of summer 2017, Anna Funder found herself at a moment of peak overload. Family obligations and household responsibilities were crushing her soul and taking her away from her writing deadlines. She needed help, and George Orwell came to her rescue. "I’ve always loved Orwell," Funder writes, "his self-deprecating humor, his laser vision about how power works, and who it works on." So after rereading and savoring books Orwell had written, she devoured six major biographies tracing his life and work. But then she read about his forgotten wife, and it was a revelation.

One of the best mystery novels I've ever read. Highly recommend!!
This mystery novel is very complex and compelling. At first it was confusing because there are so many characters involved and I had to get a notepad and write things down to keep people straight - but if you stick with it I think you won't regret it and will find it very satisfying. It reminds me of Where the Crawdads Sing.

Would love to see more from Chris Hammer
I enjoyed the two books available on Audible-- Scrublands and The Tilt, but there is a book released in 2023 called either The Seven or Cover the Bones that is not available. The books I have listened to are well written, interesting, suspenseful and take u to Australia. Please make more of his books available.

Gripping and beautifully written
Chris Hammer, like Jane Harper, writes landscape and terrain into his books like another character. You can smell, feel and hear his ‘forest’. His plot winds and undulates through this gripping read.
I loved this book and the reader was brilliant - earthy like the landscape, a great Australian voice that works well with the characters of the story.
This is highly recommended to keep you alert and on edge through a very long car journey.
