Resumen del Editor

Mises wrote this book for the ages, and it remains the most spirited, thorough, and scientifically rigorous treatise on money ever to appear. It made his reputation across Europe and established him as the most important economist of his age.

This Mises Institute edition is the first English edition, and it comes complete with an explanatory foreword by Murray Rothbard and a preface by Douglas French.

This classic treatise was the first really great integration of microeconomics and macroeconomics, and it remains the definitive book on the foundations of monetary theory. As Rothbard points out in his introduction to "the best book on money ever written," economists have yet to absorb all its lessons.

Mises shows that money had its origin in the market, and that its value is based on its usefulness as a commodity in exchange. Step by step, Mises presents the case for sound money without inflation and presents the beginnings of a full-scale business-cycle theory. This edition includes Mises' early blueprint, improved later in life, for a return to a fully backed gold standard and competitive banking.

Interesting read

Interesting read as a stand alone and also as a precursor to Human Action, Ludwig von Mises' masterpiece. A useful history of the cyclical mistakes of nations with their monetary policies. I am repeatedly impressed with the wisdom and scholarship of von Mises.

Unbelievable

This book is incredible thorough. Mises is incredible, but not an easy read. I feel like every few sentences I need to listen to multiple times just bc it's dense stuff. I heard someone say it's like reading Shakespeare in that it's English but you may have to read or listen to portions more than once to really grasp the idea he is sharing. I really enjoyed this and hope you do too. It was awesome

What is money?

Meticulous analysis of the economic principles of money. This was particularly interesting from the perspective of the novel invention of cryptocurrencies long after this book was written.

Deep dive into monetary theory.

Wide and deep and completely relevant for today’s world, if only some people in power had the gumption to learn it.

It would be fun if it had jokes

I had to listen at 2x to get enough words per attention span to get his drift.
Someone should rewrite it in a fashion that more than nerds (me) and libertarians read/listen to.
On the other Austrian, the nature of the subject, with all its misconceptions, does demand precision; so missing half a definition during a household noise is a mere occupational hazard.
I like men who have all the details down; many people grant some false premises in order to disprove others. This guy picks out all the misconceptions in the carpet of multinational, international, and local finance with a tweezers.
They got an austere fella to read this; he did it neatly and in the style of a dead Austrian.
If they had got someone with emotions more prone to market fluctuations, the info could perhaps be more understandable and memorable; but I will be back in some months to relisten in order to understand more.
Nice to know that yes, there ARE rules, and yes, the newsboys ARE covering for the Fed.
10/10 BASED
