Acerca de esta escucha
The Theogony (composed c. 700 BC) is a poem by Hesiod (8th-7th century BC) describing the origins and genealogies of the Greek gods. Among the finest poets of ancient Greece was Hesiod, a contemporary of Homer, who lived in the eighth century B.C. It is still a matter of dispute whether Homer or Hesiod was the earlier poet, and sometimes whether they were one and the same person! At any rate, Hesiod's incredible poetry serves as a major source for our understanding of Greek mythology, farming practices, time keeping and astronomy. In and of itself, the "Works and Days" is unparalleled in its richness and beauty, easily rivaling Homer.

The Greek poet, Hesiod, stands out as the first personality in European literature. The Theogony contains a genealogy of the gods from the beginning of time and an account of their violent struggles before the present order was established. The Works and Days, a compendium of advice for a life of honest husbandry, shines a unique and fascinating light on archaic Greek society, ethics, and superstition. Hesiod's poetry is the oldest source of the myths of Prometheus, Pandora, and the Golden Age.

Historia
Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey are unquestionably two of the greatest epic masterpieces in Western literature. Though more than 2,700 years old, their stories of brave heroics, capricious gods, and towering human emotions are vividly timeless. The Iliad can justly be called the world’s greatest war epic. The terrible and long-drawn-out siege of Troy remains one of the classic campaigns. The Odyssey chronicles the many trials and adventures Odysseus must pass through on his long journey home from the Trojan wars to his beloved wife.

Historia
Aristotle's Metaphysics was the first major study of the subject of metaphysics - in other words, an inquiry into 'first philosophy', or 'wisdom'. It differs from Physics which is concerned with the natural world: things which are subject to the laws of nature, things that move and change, are measurable. In Metaphysics, the study falls on 'being qua being' - being insofar as it is being; the causes and principles of being, the causes and principles of substances.

In this, the first prose history in European civilization, Herodotus describes the growth of the Persian Empire with force, authority, and style. Perhaps most famously, the book tells the heroic tale of the Greeks' resistance to the vast invading force assembled by Xerxes, king of Persia. Here are not only the great battles - Marathon, Thermopylae, and Salamis - but also penetrating human insight and a powerful sense of epic destiny at work.

"The Theogony" (“Birth of the Gods”) is a poem by Hesiod which describes the origin, position and relationships of the gods of the Greek pantheon. Hesiod created a synthesis of the diverse Greek traditions concerning the gods, in the form of a hymn invoking Zeus and the Muses. The Theogony is the first known Greek mythical cosmogony. However, it should not be considered as the authoritative source of Greek mythology, but rather as a portrait of a dynamic tradition that was recorded around 700 BCE.

Narrator is very calming
I really enjoy this narrator, she has a wonderful tone. I felt welcomed into the story, and not over whelmed or intimidated which I think can happen sometimes when you are faced with classic literature. I am going to also get her version of the Odyessy and the Illiad as well.

Epic poem
So it’s the full Greek mythology in an epic poem there’s a lot of flowery language and long threads of a god’s lineage. The worst part is this narrator pronounces “wiles” (as in cunning) as “Willy’s” like the name. Other than that she has a great voice!

Giordani is a weak point
Story is as timeless as ever and Giordani’s diction and accent are both pleasant and enjoyable. So where does it go wrong? Giordani lowers her voice in a really annoying, forced “I am reading Dr Seuss to my kids” kind of way that totally takes you out of the story. Hearing Zeus being portrayed like he was tooth decay in a children’s play was annoying enough for me to actually waste my time writing this review

Ugh
This recording and reading are very well done.
The story is worse than a set of stereo instructions. Essentially a list of names with vague inference that those beings are important in some way without ever explaining.
But hey, I wasn’t alive then. Maybe everyone back then knew of “rosy armed hipponoe”
If you must read everything related to Greek mythology, then you’re probably not reading this review. But be warned, this poem is boring and annoyingly repetitive and highly uninformative without context.
