Resumen del Editor

Saviors start at a young age...

Being the only survivor in a tragic car accident that claimed his entire family, six-year-old Jace starts his new life as an orphan in the Sanctuary for Orphaned Children - a place that seems like a dream to those on the outside, but with a world so drastically different on the inside.

Surrounded by seemingly endless violence, Jace isolates himself from all those around him as he plunges deeper into a frustrated anger and depression. When he strangely and suddenly attaches himself to a bad mouthed troubled youth, he starts to find a light at the end of the dismal and agonizing tunnel. He will discover strange magic and technology. He will discover plots and oddities about the establishment. He will discover that he is the savior for all of humanity.

Too clichéd but worth the listen

J. P. Edgar creates a contemporary YA story that's a mix between Brandon Sanderson's Steelheart and Fight Club. The MC, Jace, is orphaned at 6 and is ushered into what turns out to be an exclusive orphanage and by exclusive, I mean not in a good way. From the day he arrived he had been bullied but older students and having to learn how to fend them off using fighting skills earned after several years of practice in The Pit, The Pit is an unauthorized fight club type arena events where the MC, seemingly. ends up earning a great deal of money.

There are many areas that are significant but brushed over assuming the listener will accept the unexplained rules and reasons behind them. There are also major holes in the story where the author introduces us to people who play a major positive role in Jace's life in the orphanage but whose unexpected disappearance is hinted at but left at that.

Still, there's enough of an interesting story that I plan to pick up book 2 in the future.

Jim Schubin's narration was well done.
