The Tantalus Cluster is the fragile cradle of humanity.
Adrift in the divide between galaxies and surrounded by the vast emptiness of the intergalactic void, the Tantalus Cluster is the only home humanity has ever known.
Desperate and facing starvation, humanity’s only hope is a strange nebula that has suddenly appeared beyond the edge of the cluster. Its shifting clouds may hide a source of salvation for the people of Tantalus, but time is running out.
Signing on to the ambitious Avalon Expedition, Privateer Captain Cassandra Farren will face the shadows of both the past and future as she leads her small crew into the unknown in a last, desperate bid for the survival of the human race.
Directed and produced with careful scientific consultation, The Sojourn captures every detail of life aboard ship, from the sounds of the smallest airlock seal to the largest space battle. Featuring a full cast of veteran voice actors, backed up by high-quality sound effects and an epic original soundtrack, The Sojourn is a unique and striking audio experience.
Starring Larissa Thompson as Captain Cassandra Farren, Emily Serdahl as Director Elizabeth Ancelet, Laura Faye Smith as Tamara Melari, Ben Prendergast as Mathias Croft, Stephen Trafford as Inquisitor Castian Vadric, also featuring Matthew Kaufman as Lieutenant Jasper Ravi, and Lelia Symington as Empress Valendra the Sixth. Written by Daniel Orrett, sound design and audio editing by Kennedy Phillips, music by Sam Redfern.

Good, but shorter than I expected

The population crunch food riot plot is the only sticking point in my mind. It would have landed better with a catastrophe to set off the agricultural collapse. Malthus was wrong, let's stop entertaining his nightmare and stare at the ones we actually might face.
A radio sci-fi drama to reach for the stars

but I had to for this one.
Also usually I don't like audiobooks with sound effects and many voice actors, but this one impressed me despite my pre-judgement.
every little detail seems on point. not too much, not too little.
my only negative feedback is: way too short! I want the story to continue.
without spoilers I can only compare the story to the very beginning of Mass Effect game series.
great voice acting and sound! great story!

Overall, I'm impressed. The worldbuilding, while still shallow, is what hooked me onto the story and I can't wait to see it developed in upcoming volumes. Will be following this series closely.
Casting-wise, they did a pretty good job. The only major criticism I have is with regard to the lead protaganist's voice actress. She doesn't sound a like starship captain; let alone a war vet. She sounds too young and doesn't carry the gravitas I would expect of an experienced commander or soldier.
Writing was a little awkward in places, but good overall. I do find the Director's character to be a little unbelievable. For what is supposed to be an internationally cooperative expedition, I would have expected someone a little more serious and traditional appointed to that role. Some of the character development seems a little rushed. The interactions between the Director and Cass, for example, give the impression that they are old friends of some sort despite them just meeting.
Despite those flaws, I look forward to the next volume. Definitely worth the price.
