The latest thrilling installment in the bestselling Mercy Carr mystery series

Mercy and Troy are looking forward to baby Felicity’s first holiday season, and they’re determined to make it a Christmas to remember. At Northshire’s annual Solstice Soirée, hosted by Northshire’s finest and funded by Mercy’s billionaire pal Feinberg, Amy’s little girl Helena is sitting on Santa Claus’s lap. She’s telling him she’d like a Bitty Baby doll just like little Felicity when the bearded man leaps up, thrusts the toddler at her mother Amy, and staggers away from the festivities. He disappears into the woods. By the time Elvis and Mercy find him, Santa Claus aka the town mayor, is lying on his back, dead. A yule log made of oak sits on his chest, burning bright, a beacon of light on the darkest day of the year.

This strange murder is the first of a series of similar Solstice-themed killings targeting the town’s most prominent citizens. Beloved family friend Lillian Jenkins, the grande dame of Northshire, could be next. Mercy and Troy and the dogs must team up with Thrasher and Harrington to capture The Yuletide Killer before he strikes again, this time far closer to home.

The story is incredible! I love this series. The narrator is phenomenally talented. The range of voices…I can know who the character is - not easy with so many characters. Very talented and enjoyable!

Love this series!

Loved this story. Such imagery everywhere! Tight writing with much going on but great flow. Would have liked more incidences and imagery, description, team to do with the dogs. But with still merging two families and Christmas traditions taking shape. Rich events with loads of imagery. Loved the subject of organisms, so much traditional and brought into their commitment to Church and exciting mystery and suspense domestic and criminal. So much Love and romance. good humor.

Wonderful Christmas Story AND Multiple Civic Service and Musteries

Same old thing - if you like strange cult like stuff you might like this. I was kinda of iffy on this series now it's off my list.

Not a fan of Druids

I was so disappointed with this book. I've enjoyed the past books but this one was just awful. As another reviewer stated it was like a sickly sweet Hallmark movie. I had been thinking that as I was listening. I had purchased the book and wished I had used a credit so I could have returned it. I think the constant descriptions of what people were wearing and the constant Christmas descriptions got old quickly. I think this is it for me with the series. Sorry, but it really wasn't a good listen.

I'm Not Alone!!

I’m halfway through and I don’t know if I can plough on through more hours of endless Christmas cliche. Hours of description of every minute of this town’s and Merci’s fantasy Hallmark Christmas and tourist solstice celebration. It’s unbelievably saccharine with a drop of plot advancement every chapter amid the one dimensional portrayal of characters and life. Don’t get me wrong, I can enjoy a Hallmark Christmas movie and I love Christmas but has no depth.

Also I googled the author to see if she had children because of her description of Merci’s daughter’s reaction and comprehension of Santa and participation in events around her, not to mention her first word being “more”…at 9 mo!?! A comparative? Sorry I’ve have three kids, two grandkids and a PhD in psychology and the level of development she describes is more like 18 mo (if the child is bright). Everything is in service of this superficial rendering of happy families.

So the plot? Well it’s buried somewhere. Don’t let the “druids” put you off. I’m sure they would be doing an eye roll at her portrayal of them and after plowing through 6 hours, I’d estimate there is only about 30min portraying them. There’s a cheesy solstice prayer and a description of a druid’s celebration robes. Made me think of the Pope.

If I weren’t cleaning house and doing laundry so I can tune out most of the chapter and tune in to get the 5min of info regarding the plot, I couldn’t do it. It was very disappointing.

Don’t waste a credit.

12 hours of a bad description of a Hallmark Christmas
