In the new novel from New York Times best-selling crime master Ace Atkins, violence comes in many forms...and this time it may be more than Quinn Colson can handle.

The Pritchards had never been worth a damn - an evil, greedy family who made their living dealing drugs and committing mayhem. Years ago, Colson's late uncle had put the clan's patriarch in prison, but now he's getting out, with revenge, power, and family business on his mind. To make matters worse, a shady trucking firm with possible ties to the Gulf Coast syndicate has moved into Tibbehah, and they have their own methods of intimidation.

With his longtime deputy Lillie Virgil now working up in Memphis, Quinn Colson finds himself having to fall back on some brand-new deputies to help him out, but with Old West-style violence breaking out and his own wedding on the horizon, this is without doubt Colson's most trying times as sheriff. Cracks are opening up all over the county, and shadowy figures are crawling out through them - and they're all heading directly for him.

Terrific plot, excellent narration, remarkable characters. A highlight of this truly enjoyable series. Highly recommended!

One of the best of this series

There is always an over abundance of bad guys for such a small Mississisippi town and the same lovable good guys who pursue them. The language contains more swear words than I like, but you accept that this is the way that real criminals and trash lace their language with expletives. Most place names in the story are actual names of towns and landmarks in Mississippi. This won't be the last in the Colson seeries, I'm sure.

Typical Atkins

Everything you know and love about Quinn Colson and Tibbehah County, multiplied by 3. It’s really good

Awesome

Quinn Colson has little depth. He’s definitely not charismatic. This series is all about the bad guys having charm. I actually think I may me more interesting than Quinn and I’m boring.

The bad guys are entertaining.

The book relies on everyone's favorite stereotypically stupid and venal characters from the deep south. As such, they're well-presented and act as one might well imagine. The story is engaging enough, and the reader is good at doing accents of stupid, inbred redneck hick southerners . . . but wouldn't it be nice if these weren't the basis for the drama?

few surprises
