… and the reason I chose “The Silent House” in Audible’s “Deals” section. A mere $8.84 was a small price to pay for the thrilling ride that is “The Silent House” by the brilliant H.M. Lynn. Narrated by the sublime Rose Robinson (I have accumulated quite a vast collection of her books), this psychological mystery is a classic in suspense, with Lynn's clever plotting combining to create an unforgettable listening experience. The story follows a woman who moves to the countryside with her husband, seeking a fresh start, but soon finds herself trapped in a web of secrets, lies and terror. As time goes by, she must confront the darkness lurking within her own mind... or is it something more sinister? Robinson's vocals are, as always, warm, smooth and engaging. Her British accent and dialect add a touch of sophistication. Both Lynn and Robinson are expertly paired and bring depth and a sense of devious foreboding to the story that’s captivating. I was drawn in by the protagonist’s descent into madness. Robinson's performance is the perfect accompaniment to Lynn and this thrilling tale. I’ll be looking for more by these two talented women. If you crave British psychological thrillers like I do, you won't want to miss “The Silent House.” Do I need to even say “highly recommended”? I think not.
