As any true sports fan will tell you, once you have an allegiance to a team it's set in stone. It's unwavering. It's finite. You never leave. Yet somehow, I've been asked to do just that.
To set aside my love for The Yankees and take ownership of The New York Lions—the worst team in Major League Baseball. Oh, yes, and turn them into winners. An impossible job I don't want, from a gift I couldn't get a refund on.
But bring me a challenge and I will rise to it . . . Never, in all my thirty-one years, have I shied away. And, technically, I still haven't. Because, technically, I haven't accepted this particular challenge. Or two.
Enter Lowe Slater. The woman of my dreams. The woman I've loved from afar since I knew what love meant. My sister's best friend and the one who's been tasked to help me.
Twenty-five years I've kept Lowe at arm's length. Now she's everywhere I go. I have a team to build and somehow I'm doing it with Lowe by my side.
The walls I've so carefully constructed are falling down brick by brick, and soon it's not just the Commissioner's Trophy at stake.
It's my heart, too.

I was temporarily confused because the book says Indiana Jones/Harrison Ford as one of Jupiter's neighbors but the narration says Sean Combs/Puff Daddy. Not sure when or why this was changed, but I don't know why my book and my audiobook don't match when I bought them at the exact same time. Then later, the narrator refers to Penn's father, but he should have said 'grandfather'
I loved Penn and Lowe's story. All of the books in this series have great love stories, but I think this one is my favorite.
Lowe has been best friends with Lauren - Penn's sister - for 26 years. Penn was 5 the first time he ever saw Lowe, and he told his father that he was in love with her. And he's stayed in love with her all these years. He "dated" but never committed to anything. He knew Lowe would own his heart for his entire life, even if she never found out that he'd been in love with her all that time. He protected himself by pretending she wasn't there.
Until he finds out that his grandfather has gifted him ownership of the worst team in Major League Baseball and with a few machinations in the background, convinces him to hire Lowe to work for him in PR.
The proofreaders and editors did a little better in this one than they did in book 2 - Book 1 was the best, as far as that goes.
Sweet Scale: 5/5 (Penn, in unrequited love for nearly his entire life, earned all 5 sweet stars)
Spicy Scale: 3.5/5
