Abby thought things couldn’t get worse. She was wrong.
Her best friend shares a mate bond with her two sworn enemies, Mason won’t stop following her around, and Lill has been accused of treason.
Alibis aren’t adding up, memories don’t align, and Abby has no idea who to trust. The only constant? Every path leads back to the shifters.
When the faerie royal family is attacked, every finger points toward Lill and the shifters. Tensions peak, and when Mason publicly calls into question the shaky peace agreement between the faerie and shifter kingdoms, everything unravels.
Abby is forced to choose sides. Does she stand by Lill, her best friend since childhood? Or does she trust Kie and Mason, the two men who have shown her nothing but cruelty and indifference?

After a somewhat slow and chaotic first installment, The Shattered Kingdom comes in swinging and is definitely a major upgrade for this series. We pick up right where book one left off… and then immediately get thrown into absolute fae drama when Mason drops the bomb that Lillian is not actually their mate. Instead? She’s been using some sketchy magic to manipulate the bond between herself, Mason, and Kie. Unfortunately for her, that little trick doesn’t quite land on Mason because—hello—shifter.
Cue the unraveling.
While Lillian is busy playing fake soulmate and secretly going full villain mode (and let’s be real, homegirl is NOT as fragile as she pretends), Kie and Mason are both catching very real feelings for Abby. Things escalate quickly once Abby and Mason discover they’re true mates and actually act on the bond, which sends poor Kie into an emotional spiral. Between losing his title, losing his mother (thanks to Lillian’s unhinged behavior), and now believing he’s losing his mate too? The man is going THROUGH it.
Thankfully, this trio doesn’t stay messy for too long. The angst gets worked through faster than expected, Abby accepts her bond with both of them, and suddenly we’re in full fae-queen era. Watching Abby step into her power, claim her place in the fae realm, and start navigating her relationships with her mates and court was genuinely fun. The romance and court dynamics definitely felt stronger and more engaging this time around.
But of course… peace never lasts.
A war with the shifters is looming, and Mason—now king of the fae realm—is being forced into an impossible position that will clearly explode in book three. The political tension and brewing conflict finally give the overarching plot some direction, and I’m fully expecting the next installment to go all-in on a fae vs. shifter showdown.
Now, let’s be honest: there are still plot holes. Lillian, her mother, and this mysterious god-level magic situation raise more questions than answers, and not always in a satisfying way. Also… you cannot convince me these characters are in their late 20s/early 30s. The emotional reactions and decision-making sometimes scream teenage chaos, which can pull you out of the story a bit.
Still, despite the inconsistencies, this was a solid improvement over book one. More action, more relationship development, higher stakes, and just enough drama to keep me invested. With the war clearly on the horizon and book three still TBD, I’ll absolutely be tuning in to see how this fae–shifter conflict plays out.
Consider me cautiously hooked.
