Resumen del Editor

We are all strangers in a strange land, longing for home, but not quite knowing what or where home is. We glimpse it sometimes in our dreams, or as we turn a corner, and suddenly there is a strange, sweet familiarity that vanishes almost as soon as it comes.... - Madeleine L’Engle, from The Rock That Is Higher

Story captures our hearts and feeds our imaginations. It reminds us who we are and where we came from. Story gives meaning and direction to our lives as we learn to see it as an affirmation of God’s love and truth - an acknowledgment of our longing for a rock in the midst of life’s wilderness.

Drawing upon her own experiences, well-known tales in literature, and selected narratives from Scripture, Madeleine L’Engle gently leads the way into the glorious world of story in The Rock That Is Higher. Here she acknowledges universal human longings and considers how literature, Scripture, personal stories, and life experiences all point us toward our true home.

Not expected, but awesomely relevant.

i have read her SciFi books. This was not what I expected, but it has become awesomely relevant to the way I choose to think about life.

Pamela Almond IS Madeleine L'Engle!

This is a beautifully- written and beautifully read story about story. Madeleine L'Engle was so much more than A Wrinkle in Time and it show in all her non-fiction books. I have listened to three narrated by Pamela Almand and it just sounds like I'm listening to a talk with Madeleine L'Engle herself. full of warmth and thoughtful musings about art and writing and creativity and life and God's use of it all.

This brings Madeleine L'Engle to life more than anything I've ever read about her or listened to and actually more than the author herself. I listened to one of her books she narrated herself and it was awful! I like to picture her sounding more like this and will listen to more of her writings by this narrator. It is calming and lovely. It makes me think and smile and it is a joy to listen to.

Misleading description

I thought this book was going to be about exploring stories and maybe adding a Christian layer to well-known stories, but instead all it is is just Mrs. L’Engle’s views on theology (and a very poor theology at that).
If I had known this was a book on her theology and not a book about stories I would never have purchased it. She’s not a theologian, she’s a children’s book author, and it shows in the way she writes.

Also, she’s obsessed with separating truth from fact. As a Christian, I can appreciate that truth often goes beyond simple facts, but she seems determined to completely separate the two which isn’t rational or right.
And lastly, it’s just boring.
