There is a huge, bold black streak in the sky. Branches appear out of nowhere over North America, Southern Europe, and Central Africa. People who live beneath The Rift can see it. But scientists worldwide are distressed - their equipment cannot pick up any type of signal from it. The rift appears to consist of nothing. Literally. Nothing. Nada. Niente. Most people are curious but not overly concerned. The phenomenon seems to pose no danger. It is just there.
Then something jolts the most hardened naysayers, and surpasses the worst nightmares of the world's greatest scientists - and rocks their understanding of the universe.

The robot M6 is the best character in the story.
The anomaly is never explained, and with an ending like nothing ever happened we are just left guessing.
The narrator is very good though.
I was hoping for a big reveal, which there isnt.
Ending is weak and i conclusive.

Excellent narration, with my only complaint being that the voice change to Marebels' daughter was rather abrasive and distracting.
Story cohesion was lost in the riff

The way this story is laid out is really spectacular I found myself constantly wanting to listen to more I practically finished the book overnight. And the way it ended! Like WHAT?! New favorite audiobook right here taking over a dear place in my heart - Bobiverse. Which if you liked those books you will love this book by the way. Any true sci fi fans will want to listen to this a second time right after you are done.
I bought this book with my own hard earned money and it was well worth it. Love it, love it, looove it.
Update: Listening to this now again for second time. Someone said it's predictable but it's more like, "I hope this happens.." a few times and then it does and you're so happy because he maintains very sound science throughout the book without turning it into totally crazy theories in an attempt to awe people or be 100% unique. If you're a true sci-fi fan and like to really consider the nature of our universe and matter itself - this book is right up your alley. If you're looking for listen-and-forget-spaceships-shooting-lasers stories then this book may not be for you.
