There is a huge, bold black streak in the sky. Branches appear out of nowhere over North America, Southern Europe, and Central Africa. People who live beneath The Rift can see it. But scientists worldwide are distressed - their equipment cannot pick up any type of signal from it. The rift appears to consist of nothing. Literally. Nothing. Nada. Niente. Most people are curious but not overly concerned. The phenomenon seems to pose no danger. It is just there.

Then something jolts the most hardened naysayers, and surpasses the worst nightmares of the world's greatest scientists - and rocks their understanding of the universe.

I love how the author uses hard science and known and theorized physics. The use of a future setting helps with the theoretical.

Great Science

I have no idea where in the heck this title came from I must've just happened to hop on audible at the right time because I have never seen this title and it absolutely blew me away. I am a big science fiction nerd and I love when writers/authors have clearly thought out the science with a well crafted plot.

The way this story is laid out is really spectacular I found myself constantly wanting to listen to more I practically finished the book overnight. And the way it ended! Like WHAT?! New favorite audiobook right here taking over a dear place in my heart - Bobiverse. Which if you liked those books you will love this book by the way. Any true sci fi fans will want to listen to this a second time right after you are done.

I bought this book with my own hard earned money and it was well worth it. Love it, love it, looove it.

Update: Listening to this now again for second time. Someone said it's predictable but it's more like, "I hope this happens.." a few times and then it does and you're so happy because he maintains very sound science throughout the book without turning it into totally crazy theories in an attempt to awe people or be 100% unique. If you're a true sci-fi fan and like to really consider the nature of our universe and matter itself - this book is right up your alley. If you're looking for listen-and-forget-spaceships-shooting-lasers stories then this book may not be for you.

What in the world just happened to my brain

I have really enjoyed nearly every book I've listened to by this author, but this one kind of missed the mark. Overall, the story was entertaining and relatively captivating, but there were certain aspects that, when mentioned, would kill any story immersion you had. The most notable holes were caused by simple logic errors, with the biggest one being, How can a plane fly into the rift, but for researchers to investigate it, they need a space elevator, and the Farmer trio needed a rocket? Seems like the simplest solution was just ignored. Then there's M6 and Siri, whose ability to close the rift and how was apparently lost in translation.

Excellent narration, with my only complaint being that the voice change to Marebels' daughter was rather abrasive and distracting.

Story cohesion was lost in the riff
