The only place of safety for the desperate has been destroyed.

Yvonne has finally found a place to settle, where her children can grow, and where she can continue her work as Hunar, oath-bound to serve those in need.

Even as she starts thinking about the future, and what that might mean, a shock rings across the world. Someone has attacked the Sisters in the Stone Walls.

The attack is devastating, tearing apart everything the Sisters have built, leaving too many dead including one of Yvonne's dearest friends.

Hurt by another loss, Yvonne is determined to find out what happened, and why, and stop whoever is responsible from causing more devastation.

The Rending continues Yvonne's story which started in The Gathering. If you like your fantasy with plenty of mystery and magic, and a strong heroine, you'll want to continue this fantasy series by Vanessa Nelson.

I’m not sure exactly what I like so much about this story /series, but something about it has me invested.
Familiar types are all different from typical. Goblins are elegant, long-lived, taper-eared, and powerful. They like a good fight. Earnest and never break their word. I LOVE Guise.
And so it goes, wolfkin aren’t exactly the same as general idea of shapechangers.
The idea of the Hundred is a novel one, as far as I know.
The story has been unfolding at a slower pace than is the usual but it’s a nice change of pace.
Sometimes the “world-building” is a little too much on the side of “sketched out” versus filled in, but ultimately I’m more about the story anyway.
I can’t tell at all where the main problem to solve is going. Five days til the next installment. I’m glad they aren’t years apart!

Slow to unfold, but addicting and different
