While I didn’t enjoy this book quite as much as the first, I still really liked it. It did suffer from “middle of a trilogy” syndrome where the story had to pick up where it left off and build for the final story while still maintaining its own plot points and interest. I feel like the story is doing a LOT of work and there are a ton of branches but it does piece together decently. I’m excited to see where book three takes us and how the story ends.

A Good Second Installment

As much as I wanted to like these books I just couldn’t stand the FMC. It’s difficult for me to get behind and car about a FMC who constantly makes the wrong choices again and again and again. Not to mention, it’s extremely difficult to like a book where everything always goes wrong. I’m not one to like books that make me feel, frustrated, disappointed, hopeless, and deflated in every chapter. The FMC has been betrayed by every single member of her family, the head of the army, and the council. How can I get excited about a book when everything goes wrong? What a waste of time and money.
