Resumen del Editor

One man's prison is another man's fortress. Alan grew up believing that justice was as simple as throwing criminals in jail. He also grew up believing there was no such thing as a shadow with a mind of its own. A special request to put his photographic talents to use for an interview at the local prison reveals a dark plan brewing there. To stop it and keep his family safe, he may have to form some uneasy alliances.

No rest for Alan and Blot!

The performance was brilliant! Damon Abdallah is the perfect narrator for this series.
Alan and Blot barely have time to recover from their first adventure before another challenge comes their way.
No spoilers.
I love the deepening of Blot's and Alan's characters. We learn more about both of them. Alan isn't the only one with inner conflicts. After the events of book one, Blot is a traitor and has to figure out her new role. Alan is still struggling with his hero/savior tendencies and his sense of right and wrong. Alan learned the cost of heroism in the first book, but a new challenge pushes him even further.
We haven't seen the end of the Dawn or the white-suits. Those two groups blur the lines between good and evil. I think Lallo does a good job of showing that a clean line between good and evil does not exist.
While listening to this series, I’m often reminded of a quote from Robert Greene’s 48 Laws of Power. “Power is essentially amoral and one of the most important skills to acquire is the ability to see circumstances rather than good or evil.”
I think Blot is better able to see circumstances, but Alan struggles. Their differences regarding right and wrong provide great character conflicts.
Blot is still one of my favorite characters, but Alan’s new neighbor and Todd are my favorite characters in book two. The characters in this series are very well-written. The story world continues to deepen.
If you love novels with complex story worlds, this is the series for you. Lallo gives us more information about the world, but those answers lead to more questions. He is slowly revealing details about the world and the characters.
A huge revelation regarding a character is waiting at the end of book two! Once you hear it, I promise you will get book three right away.
