Alice has been lying to herself for years, holding fast to the belief that the needs of her family far outweigh her own. Classic Marlina Marchetta
I admire Marlina Marchetta’s ability to capture so many different types of “Australian” characters from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Her characters are so real I feel I know them personally. Their stories are so relatable and set against a background that can’t be mistaken for anywhere else but today’s East coast of Australia.
The narrator was extremely disappointing however. I struggled to get past her flat, almost disinterested delivery, only persevering because - well...Marlina Marchetta!
