A gripping thrill ride Audible Plus recommendation

I’m absolutely enthralled with “The Optician's Wife” by Betsy Reavley, expertly narrated by Beverley A. Crick. This British mystery is a winner in suspense, complete with unexpected twists and turns that had me hooked from the very beginning. Reavley's writing is exceptional, crafting a complexellent web of secrets and lies. The story follows Deborah who becomes entangled in a dark and twisted world when she meets the charming Larry. But as a series of gruesome murders casts a shadow over their lives, her world begins to unravel. Crick's narration perfectly complements Reavley's writing, bringing the eccentric characters to vivid life that goes above and beyond. The way she handles the story's dark themes and complex emotions is nothing short of remarkable. As an avid fan of British psychological thrillers, “The Optician's Wife” remains at the top of my favorites. A gripping tale that explores the darker side of human nature, I'm eager to explore more of Reavley’s and Crick’s work. Highly recommended and worthy of a treasured credit, though I lucked out and found this jaw-dropping thriller in the Audible Plus catalogue at no cost.

Depressing

Her book Frailty was much better. This book was depressing from the start. I kept hoping it would get better. Kept listening out of curiosity just to see if I was right about the ending. I was.

This book was great! I was hooked from the beginning and really enjoyed all the twists and turns.

What a Trip!

The Optician's Wife kept me enthralled from start to finish. This is a story of a couple- Deborah, a plain girl barely 18 with no expectations that life, or anyone, will treat her kindly, and Larry, a little older, an ambitious opticians apprentice who sweeps her off her feet- marrying, raising kids, and toughing out the hard times in life with, well, questionable entrepreneurial genius. Meanwhile, a creepy serial killer terrorizes the town owner the years, eventually throwing suspicion upon the family.
I enjoyed this book and it's been a long time since I read a story that is so unique and rather twisted with a plot so unexpected, driven by characters who are not particularly likeable in any sense of the word, but certainly morbidly curious- like you don't want to see something happening but you just can't stop yourself from looking! I particularly liked the couple's ingenuity earning money when Larry gets himself in trouble with a loan shark. You won't believe how Deborah evolves.
This book made me a big Betsy Reavley fan if only because I love the creativity that goes into writing this book! It's worth the credit and a great read, and I highly recommend it!

totally surprised by the end...... good one... narrator did a wonderful job. began kinda regular... then as it continued became quite interesting.. loved the descriptions of the characters... that really helped me to get a great visual of the settings and the people.... I give this book a B +...!

Not Exactly a Mystery

If you like morbid, gross tales, this is for you. Unfortunately predictable, and overall just sad. Personally, I wasn’t a fan. I don’t think the title matches, but meh.
