Resumen del Editor

In the eerie wasteland of Dartmoor, Sherlock Holmes summons his devoted wife and partner, Mary Russell, from her studies at Oxford to aid the investigation of a death and some disturbing phenomena of a decidedly supernatural origin. Through the mists of the moor there have been sightings of a spectral coach made of bones carrying a woman long-ago accused of murdering her husband - and of a hound with a single glowing eye.

Returning to the scene of one of his most celebrated cases, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Holmes and Russell investigate a mystery darker and more unforgiving than the moors themselves.

Deja Vu

Very interesting how the author is presenting these stories, like stories received directly from Mary. This had several twists and turns and many red herrings but was very good.

Love the narrator and storyline!

one of the best in series

a lovely combination of classic adventure with an eligeic tone for Holmes' own family history with the elderly Sabine Baring-Gould.

I'm completely addicted...

WOW! I started with the Beekeeper's Apprentice and in short order, I'm on #4 in this series. Jenny Sterlin is incredible as the narrator. I haven't looked to see if she narrates all the rest of these books, but I hope so. I love Holmes & Russell - together!

the character of Mary Russell

this completes my second or third listen to this book, and I'll immediately begin another in this series. I can spend hours with Mary Russell, with her dry wit, irony, intelligence, independence and beautiful use of language. a favorite phrase in this book was that pride could be swallowed, especially if followed by a strong cup of tea. good company!

So Tranquilly Beautiful

Despite some of the low ratings, this is one of the LRK books that I shall listen to, over an over again.

an engaging series

I absolutely love this series! The characters are engaging and the plot suspensful. The author really succeeds at her research for each book. She makes the books come alive.

Love this series

Laurie R. King is such a fantastic writer. You can transport yourself to Dartmoor as you read this book. And the history of Sabine Baring-Gould is wonderful.

Sherlock Holmes retold

Where does The Moor: A Novel of Suspense Featuring Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have now listened to 6 of Laurie King's tales of Mary Russell and Sherlock, and definitely enjoyed them. However if it weren't for my visual impairment, I would do my own reading. As Mary Russell, narrator Jenny Russel is perfect, but as Sherlock, she is annoying at best. She uses a very nasal , higher pitched, straining voice for Sherlock's dialogue which is totally incongruous with a male character and uncomfortable to listen to.

BEST DOUBLE FEATURE

I have read & listened to THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES & THE MOOR several times back to back. Together they make for moody, atmospheric reading/listening. Both books truly put the thrill in 'thriller.'
