Resumen del Editor

In the third audiobook in the Mitford Murders series, lady's maid Louisa Cannon accompanies Diana Mitford into a turbulent late 1920s Europe.

The year is 1928, and after the death of a maid at a glamorous society party, fortune heir Bryan Guinness seizes life and proposes to 18-year-old Diana, the most beautiful of the six Mitford sisters. The maid's death is ruled an accident, and the newlyweds put it behind them to begin a whirlwind life zipping between London's Mayfair, chic Paris and hedonistic Berlin. Accompanying Diana as her lady's maid is Louisa Cannon, as well as a coterie of friends, family and hangers on, from Nancy Mitford to Evelyn Waugh.

When a second victim is found in Paris in 1931, Louisa begins to see links with the death of the maid two years previously. Now she must convince the Mitford sisters that a murderer could be within their midst...all while shadows darken across Europe, and within the heart of Diana Mitford herself.

Wonderful continuation of the series!

The Mitford series is wonderful; I strongly recommend reading this as a series in order to understand and keep track of the characters and the time in history. The factual basis for the series makes it a real treasure!

A Little Stretched But Fun

Two-thirds of the way through this book, I was ready to give it a 3-star rating and complain about the extraneous characters that were suddenly introduced throughout the story. But I changed my mind by the end, when the author had tied it all together. It's still a little distracting, so imperfect, but the plot kept me guessing right up until the end.

Slow paced, is it a mystery or romance?

I don’t think even the author knows. And, regrettably, the characters aren’t particularly likable either.

The mystery doesn’t have twists, it has convulsions. Someone is going around killing snobby, self absorbed rich people and the people around them. The heroine goes off with a rich person who looked like she was going to a likable side kick, and then the heroine says she is growing to dislike her. So did we! Guy is almost likable, Luke should have been, wasn’t (who could like a gossip magazine snoop?).

If I liked Louisa perhaps I could have put up with the turtle’s pace, but I didn’t.

There is a surprise ending, **** spoiler alert ***** because the person is not mentioned until the last third of the book and then only just barely. Ms. Fellows, this doesn’t make a good plot twist. It makes all the build up (sort of, it was more of frustrating dead ends) through the last 60 some chapters a waste of time! You might as well have the murders committed by a total stranger. Oh, yeah, you pretty much did! I recommend a competent editor. It could have been a decent book.
