Resumen del Editor

The Misremembered Man is a beautifully rendered portrait of life in rural Ireland which charms and delights with its authentic characters and gentle humor. This vivid portrayal of the universal search for love brings with it a darker tale, heartbreaking in its poignancy.

A wonderful and deep book.

I thought this might be a light hearted book. In some ways it was while in others it was very deep. The main character was endearing and made you hope for the best for him. All of the characters, from the most loving to the ones you absolutely hated, were extremely well written. The story line had twists and turns. Can't say it turned out the way I had hoped, yet I completely enjoyed this book. Well narrated as well. While reading, know that the atrocities being presented happened all the way up until 1991; could still be happening. Evil presents itself where it can hide and take advantage of the innocent. As a Catholic, I was brought up that God is loving and it is unacceptable to allow evil to continue; don't say you are doing something in the name of God unless it is for a positive and loving reason.

Beautiful story

The Misremembered Man is a heartbreakingly beautiful story about the horrors inflicted on orphaned children in Ireland. I was engaged in the story from the first page through the last. I'd highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn about this dark period in Irish history.

Well worth the listening!

The narrator was wonderful! His accents were fun to hear and understandable. At first, I thought maybe he was not energetic enough to make the story interesting. But when I relaxed and fell into it, he had the perfect pace and inflection.

The story itself is heartbreaking, but told so that the reader can picture clearly the people and settings described. The characters are well developed and fitting the setting and time.

Do listen to the author's note at the end of the book!

Engaging Tale

This was a very good book to listen to as the characters were not perfect but all major characters had normal human emotions. The Irish brogue was sometimes a little hard to understand but it also helps the telling of the story. Very good book.

Beautiful, heart-wrenching yet heartwarming Irish

It sometimes seemed that the descriptions of the cruel and brutal life in the Catholic orphanage were overdone, but from what I have recently read about the Catholic mother and children's homes and orphanages, the stories seem close to reality. It is hard to believe that religious orders would somehow think they were being charitable and taking care of the innocent and vulnerable members of society, but they were in reality punishing them for their "sins" and profiting from their labor. The flashbacks of Jamie's time in the orphanage were heart-wrenching and sad but they help you understand the man he became and his ties to his adoptive family and home. He appreciated them all the more because he knew what he had come from. But his experiences left him underconfident and prone to depression. His attempts to find a woman in his life are laugh-out-loud-fun and sweet, and his dear friends Rose and Paddy help him along the way. Set in the 1970s, it is quaint and funny and leaves you with a warm glow in the end. I loved it. it reminded me of Waking Ned Devine!
