Dear Anna, What I have to tell you is difficult to write, but I know it will be far more difficult for you to hear, and I'm so sorry.

The unfinished letter is the only clue Tara and Emerson have to the reason behind their close friend Noelle's suicide. Everything they knew about Noelle - her calling as a midwife, her passion for causes, her love for her friends and family - described a woman who embraced life. Yet there was so much they didn't know.

With the discovery of the letter and its heartbreaking secret, Noelle's friends begin to uncover the truth about this complex woman who touched each of their lives - and the life of a desperate stranger - with love and betrayal, compassion and deceit.

I enjoyed this story, but wanted (and needed) more from the ending, Characters were well developed and well-connected into the story.

Very intense, very intertaining

This was a very good read. I personally found it very hard to put down. I am going to recommend it to my book club as our next read.

Good Book

It was really hard to get into simply because the readers sounded like Microsoft Sam and Microsoft Samantha.

Great story, horrible readers

I loved this book and was sorry to finish it, as I wanted these characters to stay with me much longer. My only issue is with one of the narrators. I don’t know which one used the very high voice but it was quite irritating. Others were great, however.

Chamberlain never disappoints

Weird story. One of the performers had an uncomfortable odd voice. However, there was some good analysis of mother-daughter relationships mixed in.

Weird

A very interesting and unusual mystery full of rich characterization and strong, believable emotions. As complex and confusing as real life.

Fascinating, suspenseful and well told

I couldn’t stop listening to this book. The storyline is wonderfully complex and the plot twist will leave you breathless.

The story was interesting but a bit far-fetched. Too many unrealistic connections and circumstances.
Did not enjoy the narrator for Tara. The others were great.

Interesting and relatable characters.

Chamberlain tells distinct stories woven together through friendship, love, and loss. The characters land their stories were relatable. I felt the ending was rushed - the complexities of each character’s story took a back seat to the main conflict of Noelle’s secret about the baby, but there were so many other minor stories that were left open. Overall, I enjoyed the book - just wanted a few more loose ends tied up.

Rich characters and layered storylines

The narration is distracting, especially Noelles character. Her cadence is unnerving. The young girls voices and Noelles voice are particularly
