Very enjoyable read but...

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I enjoy mythology and found the story and characters fun and fully fleshed out. My problem with it was the narrator. In a book set in Rome one would expect the narrator to have an Italian accent, but the only character with an Italian accent was the Greek driver. The "Man" had a Russian accent, and the heroine and most of the other characters had Cockney accents. My other issue was the obvious set up for a sequel. Why is it so hard to write a story that stands on it's own?

great idea. but with a few problems

I loved the concept but there was a lot of swearing. some of the characters were great and others very undeveloped. I was a little disappointed in the ending. that being said, I couldn't stop listening to it.

Mythological Thriller

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
Although the pace of the book was too slow in the beginning, overall it is has a lot of action. The mix of mythology and modern day made this a unique thriller. The narration was good as far as pace and characterization, but didn't fit with the setting (I wish he had more of an Italian accent). Overall I have mixed feelings about this book. I didn't care for the beginning and the way the author chose to end the book, but the content in-between was well worth a listen.

First be ready for an exciting ride

First forget what you been told about the ancient gods and goddess of Rome then imagine they are real and some is alive and looking for revenge. If you can imagine this then you ready for a amazing audible that you can not set down.
At the first to be honest was a bit dry and make no sense but hold on it will shortly and by the ending you be waiting the next book of the series.
The two main characters are a god killer and goddess who wanting revenge for brother death and if the goddess can find her brother he can be brought back to life. The god killer really not well defined to me. Both main characters hated each other and swore a oath
to kill the other but there was one hang up the for these characters they could not kill each other they had to have some else do it and it had to be a certain type of bullet or object made of a special metal.
The main story is is a day by day occurs and really getting you to know he. characters and how they fit in the story and how they die or possibly die. There are murder attempts, car chases, things blowing up and plenty of blood shed of both innocent people and criminal. So if you like all the blood shed, murders and car chases you are in for a treat
At first it was an issue for me to put together the storyline and connect with ancient Rome and modern Rome also to the ancient beliefs and christianity we have today but when it connect you in for a ride and like I said at the beginning forget what you have been taught and let your imagination go wild and I knows you will be asking for more.

Great listen, fun and interesting story!

Frost does a great job reading Quarles' The Man From Rome. The book is action packed and keeps you on your toes. The history and mythology woven in made it a fun and interesting take on older stories, you won't regret it!

Tense and Exciting

This is a novel about deep and abiding hate. The kind of hate that only grows over time and finds no price too great if it holds the promise of vengeance. It is perhaps ironic that the triggering incident of this raging animosity was a very small act of rejection.

In the ancient past, before the humble beginnings of the city of Rome, two immortals met. The first (the goddess, Diana) attempted to seduce the other (he who will become the Man from Rome) who drove her away with the warning that she and her kind (i.e. the other gods) should stay away from what will become Rome. Instead of listening, Diana decides to destroy the man who threatened her instead. Some three thousand or more years later, she is still trying. But this time she has a particularly insidious plan…

This whole book felt like a spy-thriller to me, but one with supernatural characters at least two of whom are close to immortal. The cast is wonderful. The Man from Rome himself is properly enigmatic and occasionally extraordinarily frightening. His enemies are intriguing as well, and the weapon they have chosen to use on him—taken out of the pages of mythology—was absolutely fascinating. The humans drawn into the conflict are both extremely sympathetic as they seek to be something more than sacrificial pawns. The plot was extremely well thought out, the action pulse-pounding, and the mystery intriguing. And while I knew very little about the geography of the city of Rome before I started reading, the author succeeded in making me feel transported to that ancient city. If you’re looking for a fast-paced adventure with a lot of twists and turns, I think you’ll enjoy The Man from Rome.

Wonderfully descriptive and modern take on mythology based story

The Man from Rome is like a fuse, it makes your anticipation for the climax build, then delivers with a bang!
The way the events are described paints a clear picture for the reader and leaves them wanting more. The characters seem well ironed out and I feel any of them could handle being the main character. Great read!

The Man From Rome

A fast paced mythological thriller that is intriguing right from the first page to the list. With lits of twists in turns, that kept me on the edge of my seat. Both the Author and the Narrator has done a fantastic job. This Audio book I definitely recommend.

Silly, pretentious and somehow, nasty.

Even the setting of the city of Rome somehow unconvincing like it was taken from a poor quality tourist map. The plot left me empty, and totally disinterested in any sequel. The voices of several characters, notably the woman Louis’s uncle’s strange segue into a Yorkshire??? accent was bizarre and ludicrous, the “Immortal” sounded like a parody of Dracula. Most peculiar, but not in a good way. Pointless drivel.
