This story really spoke to me. The author's note at the end also soothed me a little.

The story was sweet but the underlying message is so important! As woman are facing more rights being stripped away, it speaks volumes as to why education and healthcare are a fundamental right for all people!

wonderful depth

The story had a lot of depth. I loved the characters and the addition of the social issues that caused the characters to have to work through their own beliefs in order to come together. It was well researched and well written. The narrator did a great job.

Lovely, timely listen

Great story. Moves swiftly. The themes are as relevant today as they were in the 19th century. Elizabeth Jaciski (-sp?) is a fabulous narrator

Wish it was part of TSSoL series

I really wish this was included in The Secret Scientists of London series, or at least made really clear that the Damsels of Discovery series is a spin-off and should be read in order. If that had been more obvious, I would have gone back to the previous books to refresh my memory before starting this. I was so lost at times the story referred back to characters and backgrounds with little or no context to help. Frustrating.

But I *will* listen again and I'm sure I'll enjoy it even more next time. So that says a lot. Love the author. Love the author's notes. Love love *love* the narrator!

Narrator’s voice was like nails on a chalkboard

I found the narrator to be extremely insufferable. I nearly DNFed it but when I realized I wouldn’t get my credit back I decided to power on and finish it just so that my credit wouldn’t go to waste. She makes the characters sound like they’re 50. Her voice for the main character sounds like Harriet Walter’s Fanny Dashwood in the 1995 Sense & Sensibility film. I literally caught myself gritting my teeth while listening to her.
The story itself was a disappointment as well. I picked up this book expecting a historical mystery with a romantic subplot and ended up getting a horny romance with barely any mystery-solving. I love a spicy romance but this was cringey.

Came for the intriguing story, chased away by the insufferable romance plot

I think I could have enjoyed this book if the author had toned down the romance plot a bit. The story is interesting and I'm still a bit curious how the main plot of the stolen formulas turns out, but I did not expect it to be a spicy open door romance. Though I see the themes the author is trying to touch on, the way the romance is written is pretty cheesy and hard to listen to. Going to have to say goodbye to this disappointing purchase.
