Resumen del Editor

Two decades after the Civil War, Josephine Marcus, the teenage daughter of Jewish immigrants, is lured west with the promise of marriage to Johnny Behan, one of Arizona's famous lawmen. She leaves her San Francisco home to join Behan in Tombstone, Arizona, a magnet for miners (and outlaws) attracted by the silver boom. Though united by the glint of metal, Tombstone is plagued by divided loyalties: between Confederates and Unionists, Lincoln Republicans and Democrats.

But when the silver-tongued Behan proves unreliable, it is legendary frontiersman Wyatt Earp who emerges as Josephine's match. As the couple's romance sparks, Behan's jealousy ignites a rivalry destined for the history books....

At once an epic account of an improbable romance and a retelling of an iconic American tale, The Last Woman Standing recalls the famed gunfight at the O.K. Corral through the eyes of a spunky heroine who sought her happy ending in a lawless outpost - with a fierce will and an unflagging spirit.

Good but somewhat impossible

I like this story, but a woman like Josephine I don't think would have been so naive & so easily taken advantage of. I also don't think these toughened plainsmen would have been so tender.

Great one liners

This book surprised me, and made me laugh, again and again, with its unique one line jokes. I don’t normally read westerns or romances, but I very much enjoyed this story about how a young Jewish girl from San Francisco became Mrs. Wyatt Erp.

Alright for a story pulled from other stories.

The narrator was clear, but not terribly emotional. The story felt borrowed from other stories. I know there isn't a lot of actual facts that can be nailed down about Josephine Marcus Earl, but it was too much of Tombstone and a previous author's debunked "biography." She was portrayed as naive and whiney, almost entitled, yet what is known, she was likely much tougher and less gullible.

A different view of Tombstone

Any additional comments?

I went through fazes while reading this book. Some parts were very interesting to me, and during other parts it couldn't keep my attention. Overall, I enjoyed it more than not. It's cool reading historical and having female characters who didn't follow the rules of the times. It's not that she necessary wants to be a rule breaker sometimes, but regardless, she is. It's also cool seeing the men of Tombstone from a different angle.

Wonderful

I couldn't stop listening! Seeing her side of the story, gave a full picture of Tombstone and it's turbulent times.

A letdown for what could have been so much more

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

meh. I listened while I was working and it did distract me and make the time pass quickly so I suppose that was well spent. It also urged me to do additional research about the Earps and Doc Holliday. I have been fascinated by them for over 2 decades which is what drew me to this book.

Would you ever listen to anything by Thelma Adams again?

maybe if it was free or discounted

What about Emily Foster’s performance did you like?

the performance was good if not a little unnatural in the non dialogue portions.

Did The Last Woman Standing inspire you to do anything?

it inspired me to research the Earps and Doc Holliday.

Any additional comments?

I was disappointed in the lack of factual information regarding Josephine "Sadie" Marcus. There are very many conflicting stories regarding her life before and during Tombstone but this is by far the most naive dull version of her that I have read. I feel there was a lot of attention to details that had nothing to do with the story of Tombstone and more to make her sound like a simpering teenager.

A new soon to an old tail

Its a good book, especially if you are a Wyatt Eurp fan. It did seen a little short with major events glossed over by long stretches of separation from Wyatt. This was a missed opportunity.
The good parts were the deep back story of this western legend's girlfriend.
