The Knight at the Top of the Stairs
A Novel of Psychological Horror and Coming-of-Age Suspense

The summer of 1968 is a season of unrest—riots in the streets, assassinations on the news, and a war raging overseas. But for nine-year-old David, the real battle is happening inside his own home.

At the top of the stairs stands a shadow. A knight—silent, unmoving—hands resting on the pommel of a great sword. No one else can see it. No one else believes it’s there. Yet every time David’s foot brushes too close to its darkness, something terrible happens.

A swarm of hornets. A loaded gun in the wrong hands. A tragedy no one can take back.

As the world outside spirals deeper into violence, David becomes convinced the knight is not just watching—but waiting. Desperate to understand its purpose, he embarks on a journey that will force him to confront not only the shadow at the top of the stairs but the greater darkness closing in all around him.

Because fear has a price.
And in the end, the knight always collects.

Blending the nostalgic wonder of Stranger Things with the haunting depth of Stephen King’s It and the mythic lyricism of Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Knight at the Top of the Stairs is a chilling, beautifully written tale of childhood terror, family secrets, and the invisible forces that shape who we become.

Step into the summer of 1968—where innocence ends, darkness waits, and courage begins.

Beautifully written and a reminder of what was important, and all of the insecurities we struggled with back when we were 9 to 10 years old. Of couse, a reminder of the current events that shaped our world during the 1960s and 1970s. i especially feel the relationships that we formed with our sibillings and parents growing up are so important.
