Book three: Immortal at the Edge of the World

In his very long life, Adam had encountered only one person who seemed to share his longevity: the mysterious red-haired woman. She appeared throughout history, usually from a distance, nearly always vanishing before he could speak to her.

In his last encounter, she actually did vanish - into thin air, right in front of him. The question was how did she do it? To answer, Adam will have to complete a quest he gave up on a thousand years earlier, for an object that may no longer exist.

If he can find it, he might be able to do what the red-haired woman did, and if he can do that, maybe he can find her again and ask her who she is...and why she seems to hate him.

Great series. Questionable narrator.

Carlson narrates all of Doucette's books I've listened to so far. It seems like a very odd choice. All the stories have a young(ish) protagonist, while Carlson sounds a couple of generations removed. I get used to it after a while but it definitely does not complement the stories. Many mispronunciations. My pet peeve is "mischeevious". Also he continued to mispronounce the MacGuffin of book three and it irritated me every time. If you don't know how to pronounce a important word you will be using a lot, please look it up.

Amazing

The Narrator's voice is soothing and his reading feels natural and not forced, Amazing! Looking forward to finishing this series.

Light Entertainment for bedtime

I enjoy audio books before sleep time to take my mind off the real world. I most enjoy light fantasy with humor. The Immortal series punches all the buttons for me including a competent reader with a mostly pleasant voice. I state "mostly" because he struggles making female voices sound realistic.
To other reviewers who complain about "the gore", one must understand that a character cannot survive 60,000 years just by being a nice guy. Most of those years were very uncivilized and Adam would have found himself in many "survival of the fittest" moments.
I enjoyed all three novels in this single volume and will likely procure others. If you have reasonable expectations going in to the series, you will likely have a satisfactory experience with these books.

Three and a half stars really

I purchased the three volume set. That turned out to be a good idea because while I didn't much care for the first book, I found the second and third books to be much more interesting. These light, fun, creative books are great for fantasy fans. Just don't be expecting something akin to Lord of the Rings. These are more like Christopher Buckley's books.

Disappointing, Shallow, Sophomoric

The premise is tried and true, but in Doucette's Immortal it is hurt by poor character development, shallow relationships, and prose that too often reads like an inexperienced frat boy's letter to Penthouse. Every woman is objectified according to desirability for sex.

I've listened to two other Doucette novels and thought I would enjoy this series. I could not have been more wrong, and will not venture to purchase another of his books.

After the spaceship next door and the follow up book.( I re listen to quite often) I was hoping for another fun book. What I got was ken doll size potty mouth with filthy habits. I made it thru about ten minutes. I don"t like hearing the word "FUCK" over and over. Especially from such a good narrator. like I said "DISGUSTING" I am returning as fast as I can . I may have to sanitize my tablet.

YAWN!

This series, which is more predictable than every episode of Gilligan's Island, moves slower than a paused video of concrete drying.
