The murders of four innocent college students attending the University of Idaho left us all with so many questions. Now, after more than 300 interviews, James Patterson and prize-winning journalist Vicky Ward finally have the answers.

We know what it was like to live in Moscow, Idaho, on November 13, 2022, the day of the cold-blooded killings. We know what the local police and FBI did right. And what they did wrong. We’ve learned so much about the four heartbroken families—the Mogens, Goncalveses, Kernodles, and Chapins. And we have the backstory for Bryan Kohberger, brilliant grad student, loner, apparent incel.

Now you are the jury. The evidence is in.

You’ve watched the Prime documentary, One Night in Idaho, now read the “clearest profile yet of the twisted quadruple killer and his motives” (New York Post).

Good read about a story that shocks us still! I pray that justice prevails and these families will heal.

This Story Just Breaks My Heart

This book took the tragedy and made it known without exploitation or minimizing. It was raw, it was true and it was thorough.

Incredibly Done

Very clear reporting. I think the story jumped around between perspectives a bit and it was more difficult to follow on the end. Very interesting still and appreciate the valuing of the individuals and families.

very well written I knew James Patterson would do a respectful job
nothing new concerning the information
except the healing garden was something I didn't know about

I would have liked to heard a repeat down the line of the actual event.

The families

I really appreciated how the authors focused on the lives of the victims and their families, not just the horrific crime itself. They struck a powerful balance—providing important details while still showing deep respect for the people who deserved it most. An incredibly thoughtful and well-done book.

A Respectful Tribute

The difficult part of true crime books written before the outcome of the judicial process, but read/ listened to after the verdict has been reached, is that the lack of the "rest of the story" is a gaping hole in the narrative. In this particular book's case, the end of the case is so recent, as is much of the courtroom proceedings, that one truly wishes a sequel or a revised version be written.

With James Patterson's signature short chapters, numbering well over 120, his style is respected by his co-author. Because of this, the book flies by, ending, as stated, with the reader/ listener wanting more.

The book brings the victims to life, something that does not happen to them in the multitude of news reports that have filled TV screens for the past few years. Not as much is written about the perpetrator, which leaves a bit of a hole in the book. However, how much does one need to know about a person who could commit a crime so cold and calculating?

A very victim-centric book written in Patterson's signature style
